Emily Skinner Biography

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Skinner attended college at Carnegie Mellon University. She moved to New York in 1992 and took part in a workshop of Jekyll and Hyde. A few years later, she joined the original cast as an ensemble member and understudy for the leads of Emma and Lucy. Other Broadway credits include James Joyce's The Dead, The Full Monty, Dinner at Eight, the 2004 Encores! staging of the forgotten Gershwin musical Pardon My English and the 2005 Encores! production A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, both at New York City Center, and benefit concert performances of Dreamgirls and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Skinner's role as one half of a pair of Siamese twins in Side Show earned her critical acclaim and a Tony Award nomination shared with co-star Alice Ripley. It was the first time in Tony history that two performers were co-nominated as a team for the Best Actress award.

The two actresses have collaborated on three recordings, Duets, Unsuspecting Hearts, and Raw at Town Hall, taped live during their October 21, 2006 concert. Skinner also has recorded a self-titled solo album.

Skinner has appeared off-Broadway in Fanny Hill and at the Kennedy Center in Mame and Merrily We Roll Along.

Emily Skinner will be playing the role of Mrs. Milligan in the "Broadway-Bound" Production of Ace at the Signature Theatre Sept/Oct 2008.

BWW Review: CHICAGO at The Muny Photo BWW Review: CHICAGO at The Muny
by James Lindhorst - Jun 15, 2022

What did our critic think? Denis Jones (Director/Choreographer) and Barry Busby (Associate Choreographer) have assembled a splendid cast plus an ensemble of highly skilled dance professionals to pack the expansive Muny stage. Their choreography pays tribute to Fosse‚Äôs sexy and subtle work but morph it into grand movements that play to the back of this massive 11,000-seat house. Their choreography on ‚ÄúWe Both Reached for the Gun‚ÄĚ is an electrifying delight.

Broadway Rewind: A CHORUS LINE Is a Singular Sensation on Broadway! VideoBroadway Rewind: A CHORUS LINE Is a Singular Sensation on Broadway!
by BroadwayWorld TV - Apr 9, 2020

This episode of Broadway Rewind takes you to the opening night celebration of the new production of Michael Bennett's Pulitzer Prize winning musical A Chorus Line. But we start things off at a rehearsal for the one night only Actors Fund Benefit of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which starred Emily Skinner as Miss Mona and Broadway's original 'Annie' herself, Andrea McArdle as Doatsey Mae. McArdle told BroadwayWorld's own Richard Ridge about her take on the role and her song, 'She reminds me a little bit of that Mabel Normand character. Doatsey Mae is very smart. If it wasn't for that Chicken Ranch in town, she would have been a happening girl. She's overshadowed by all of this tardiness in this tiny little town, (and the song), is a heartbreaking number. It's sweet and a great country number.
