Review: MILLIONS at Alliance Theatre
by Joseph Harrison - Jun 1, 2025

What would you do if a fortune in cash fell from the sky? This theoretical question can be a popular conversation starter at dinner parties or on long road trips. The answer usually varies from large purchases, to paying off bills, to helping the needy. But have you ever thought what you would really do if this unlikely thing were to occur to you? Consider it a miracle and keep the cash? Wonder what practical reason there may be for money to rain down on you? Or maybe a bit of both? This is the ethical dilemma at the core of the world premiere new musical MILLIONS, playing at Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA through June 15th where two young brothers are faced with this exact complex morality test as they struggle with the difficult decision of what to do with a miraculous windfall.

Review: The Huntington's THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA is Sweepingly Cinematic
by R. Scott Reedy - May 21, 2025

The 1962 feature film “Light in the Piazza” was shot on location at the Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and the Via Veneto and Roma Ostiense railway station in Rome, making its technicolor splendor a hard act to follow when the story, based on a 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer, was developed for the stage in 2003.
Review: New Cast, Great Fun at Met’s BARBIERE
by Richard Sasanow - May 19, 2025

When mezzo Aigul Akhmetshina stepped on stage in the Met’s new production of CARMEN, back on New Year’s Eve of 2023, it was hard to imagine her in any other role because of the way she completely inhabited it. Would we ever be able to watch her in anything else, despite credits from other houses that ran from Elisabetta in MARIA STUARDA to Charlotte in WERTHER and, yes, Rosina in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA? Now that she made her house role debut as Rosina at the Met, this past Friday, any concerns seem moot. She was terrific.
