BWW Review: TARTUFFE, Theatre Royal Haymarket

The Royal Haymarket Theatre's new production of Tartuffe reimagines the classic Moliere comedy in the West End's first ever dual-language production. The play, adapted by Christopher Hampton, sets the satire in contemporary Los Angeles, with hints at Donald Trump replacing original references to King Louis XIV. It's a surprisingly funny and disarmingly relevant modernisation supported by a cast of English and French actors who have done impressive work across theatre, film, and television. (more...)

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's 2018 season opening production, Tartuffe, will extend its run after much critical and audience acclaim. The French masterpiece directed by Artistic Director Bonnie J. Off-Broadway Hit SKELETON CREW Comes to People's Light

People's Light presents the wildly successful off-Broadway hit Skeleton Crew, a powerful story of love and loyalty by New Play Frontiers writer Dominique Morisseau. This funny, incisive, and "deeply American" (The New York Times) play that "theatergoers won't want to miss" (Huffington Post) centers on a group of Detroit autoworkers as they confront the eroding manufacturing industry. Steve H. Broadnax III, who directed the theatre's critically-acclaimed staging of The Mountaintop in 2016, returns for the production. Skeleton Crew opens on June 13 and has already extended to July 15 on the Steinbright Stage at People's Light. (more...)

Monte will direct this masterful French comedy that hasn't been seen on STNJ's stage since 2001. Renowned translator Richard Wilburbrings Moliere's witty words to brilliant life for English-speaking audiences. Veteran company member Brent Harris will play the title role and will be joined by STNJ favorites Patrick Toon and Victoria Mack, as well as two-time Tony Award nominee, Vivian Reed. New York Classical Theatre Celebrates 19th Anniversary with ROMEO AND JULIET

New York Classical Theatre (Stephen Burdman, Artistic Director), New York City's only all-free professional Off-Broadway theatre company, is pleased to announce a new production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to celebrate its 19th Anniversary Season. The production, directed by Mr. Burdman, is the company's first staging of Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers, and will be presented in five New York City parks - Central Park, Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City, The Battery, Carl Schurz Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park - with performances from June 5 through July 29 at 7:00 PM. There is no ticketing, and all performances are free and open to the public. New York Classical Theatre also invites audiences to experience unique behind-the-scenes access to open rehearsals on selected dates for each of the five park stagings.  (more...)

Cast Announced For Sierra Rep's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Sierra Repertory Theatre will delight it's audiences this summer with Disney's Beauty and the Beast, one of modern musical theatre's biggest hits. Based on the classic 1991 Disney animated film, this theatrical telling celebrates the Academy Award-winning score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and is expanded with soaring new melodies that enchants audiences of all ages. With a book by Linda Woolverton, it's everything to love about the film and more in a stage spectacular. The independent Belle, trapped in her provincial town, finds her life turned upside down when she takes her father's place as a captive in an enchanted castle ruled by an angry Beast. With help from the creatures in the castle and her own kindheartedness, Belle finds the prince inside the Beast and works to break the curse on the mysterious castle and all of its inhabitants. A fantastically enjoyable adventure, this classic musical love story is filled with unforgettable characters and dazzling production numbers, including: "Be Our Guest" and the beloved title song. Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul, whose hit production of Camelot has extended through July 8 due to popular demand, the production will run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from August 21-September 2, providing more than 12,000 people the chance to see the play free of charge.
