BIO

David Van Tieghem is a multi-talented artist with an impressive resume that includes work in music, theater, film, and television. Born in Illinois in 1955, Van Tieghem began his career as a percussionist and composer, but quickly expanded his talents to include acting and choreography.

Van Tieghem's Broadway debut came in 1983 with the musical "The King and I," in which he played the role of Lun Tha. He also served as the production's percussionist and music arranger. In 1984, he appeared in the musical "Dreamgirls" as the drummer and percussionist. Van Tieghem's work on Broadway continued with the 1985 production of "A Chorus Line," in which he played the role of Bobby and served as the show's percussionist.
In addition to his work on Broadway, Van Tieghem has also made a name for himself in the world of experimental theater. He has collaborated with a number of avant-garde theater companies, including Mabou Mines and The Wooster Group. In 1986, he appeared in The Wooster Group's production of "Frank Dell's The Temptation of St. Antony," which was directed by Elizabeth LeCompte.
Van Tieghem's film credits include "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991), "The Last Temptation of Christ" (1988), and "Nine 1/2 Weeks" (1986). He has also worked extensively in television, composing music for a number of popular shows, including "Sex and the City," "Third Watch," and "The West Wing." In 2019, he composed the music for the HBO miniseries "Chernobyl," which received critical acclaim and won several awards.
Van Tieghem's music career has been just as impressive as his work in theater, film, and television. He has released several albums, including "These Things Happen" (1984), "Safety in Numbers" (1987), and "Strange Cargo" (1991). He has also collaborated with a number of musicians, including Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno, and Talking Heads.
In addition to his work in music, Van Tieghem has also worked as a choreographer. He has created dances for a number of productions, including "The King and I" and "A Chorus Line." He has also choreographed music videos for a number of popular musicians, including David Bowie, Talking Heads, and Laurie Anderson.
Van Tieghem's talents have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1984, he received a Drama Desk Award for his work on "The King and I." In 1993, he was awarded a Bessie Award for his choreography in the production "The Red Horse Animation." He has also been nominated for several Emmy Awards for his work in television.
