BIO

Roger Bart has enjoyed a prolific career on Broadway and beyond, beginning with his 1985 Broadway debut as Tom Sawyer in Big River. His early stage work included productions of Superbia, Tick, Tick... Boom!, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Secret Garden, and The Who's Tommy, as well as a national tour of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.


By the late 1990s, Bart was back on Broadway in King David and Triumph of Love, followed by his Tony Award-winning performance as Snoopy in the 1999 revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He went on to become closely associated with Mel Brooks' The Producers, playing both Carmen Ghia and Leo Bloom during the musical's Broadway run. He also appeared in The Frogs at Lincoln Center in 2004.

Bart continued his collaboration with Brooks on Young Frankenstein, originating Igor in an early workshop before taking on the leading role of Frederick Frankenstein for the musical's pre-Broadway engagement in Seattle and subsequent Broadway run. He later returned to the show for its national tour in 2010. Other stage credits have included Disaster! on Broadway, Annie and The Producers at the Hollywood Bowl, and Hercules at the Delacorte Theater.

In recent years, Bart has traveled around the world as Dr. Emmett Brown in Back to the Future: The Musical. He first stepped into Doc Brown's time machine for the show's 2020 Manchester premiere and continued with the production in the West End and on Broadway. He later took the role to Australia and returned to the UK for the musical's national tour.

His television career began with The George Carlin Show in 1994. He subsequently appeared in Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2000, Bram & Alice in 2002, and Out of Practice in 2005. From 2005 to 2007 and again in 2012, he played George Williams on Desperate Housewives. His television credits also include The Lost Room (2006), 30 Rock (2009), CSI: Miami and Human Target (2010), and Medium, Traffic Light, The Event, and The Life & Times of Tim (2011).

From 2012 to 2015, Bart played Mason Treadwell on Revenge. His subsequent television credits include It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2013), How I Met Your Mother (2013–2014), Jessie (2014), The Exes (2014), Episodes (2014–2017), Modern Family (2015), Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2015), Scream Queens (2015), You're the Worst (2015), Doc McStuffins (2016), Code Black (2016), No Tomorrow (2016–2017), Graves (2016–2017), Grace and Frankie (2017), There's... Johnny! (2017), A Series of Unfortunate Events (2018–2019), Quantico (2018), Elementary (2018), Good Trouble (2019–2021), The Good Fight (2019), and The Blacklist (2021).

Bart made his film debut as the singing voice of Young Hercules in Disney's Hercules (1997). His film credits include The Insider (1999), Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure (2001), The Stepford Wives (2004), The Producers (2005), I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With (2006), Hostel: Part II and American Gangster (2007), and Spy School, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and The Midnight Meat Train (2008).

His later film work includes Law Abiding Citizen (2009), One Night Stand (2011), Excision, Freaky Deaky, A Green Story, Smiley, and The Last Man (2012), April Apocalypse and Last Vegas (2013), Molly and Trumbo (2015), Internet Famous (2016), Speech & Debate (2017), Ghost Light (2018), Bayou Tales (2019), and Tick, Tick... Boom! (2021). His 2026 credits include Office Romance, while The Man with the Bag and the documentary Broadway: The Next Generation are listed as forthcoming projects.
