Julianna Margulies

Julianna Margulies made her feature film debut in Out for Justice (1991). In 1994, she was cast as Carol Hathaway on the NBC medical drama ER. She was a series regular from 1994 to 2000 and returned for one episode during the show’s final season in 2009. For her work on ER, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1994 and received Emmy nominations each year during her tenure, along with four Golden Globe nominations.

Following her departure from ER, Margulies starred as Morgaine in the TNT miniseries The Mists of Avalon (2001). Her subsequent film credits include Evelyn (2002), Ghost Ship (2002), Snakes on a Plane (2006), and The Darwin Awards (2007). On television, she appeared in Scrubs (2004), The Grid (2004), The Sopranos (2006), and The Lost Room (2006). In 2008, she starred in and produced the Fox legal drama Canterbury's Law.

In 2009, Margulies began starring as Alicia Florrick on the CBS legal drama The Good Wife, which ran until 2016. She won two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for the role and became a producer on the series beginning with its third season in 2011. She later starred in the AMC series Dietland (2018) and the National Geographic limited series The Hot Zone (2019). In 2019, she guest-starred on Billions, and in 2020 she joined the Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show for its second season.

Margulies has also worked extensively in theatre, appearing in productions including Intrigue With Faye, Ten Unknowns, and The Vagina Monologues. In 2024, she returned to Broadway in Left on Tenth. In publishing, she released the picture book Three Magic Balloons in 2016 and her memoir Sunshine Girl: An Unexpected Life in 2021, with a paperback edition in 2022.
