The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. 80'er festen har ramt operaen i Kobenhavn i skikkelse af Flashdance the musical. Endnu en gang har One and only musical teater sat alle sejl til for at give tilskuerne en stor teateroplevelse og det ligger da ogsa rigtig godt ud, da man bliver smidt lige tilbage til 80erne med sangen What a feeling, man kan ligesom se det hoje har og benvarmerne for sig. Sicilia Gadborg er sod og fin i sin rolle som Alex Owens hun har en fraekhed og en sodme som passer godt til rollen. Silas Holst spiller den anden store hovedrolle som Nick Hurley, men det er lidt som om, han forsvinder i maengden og aldrig rigtig kommer ud over scenekanten. Jeg tror ikke, at det er Silas´s skyld men mere, at det desvaerre ikke er et rigtig godt manuskript, de har at arbejde med. Nogle af dem der skiller sig ud er de 3 biroller Mrs. Wilder og Louise spillet af Nastja Arcel. Der er bid i de roller og nogen man husker, nar lyset bliver taendt i salen efter fremkaldelsen. Hannnah Owens som spilles af Ditte Grabol er en anden figur, som man husker. Ditte besidder et talent, der gor, at selv de mindste roller behersker hun og hendes rolle var en af de eneste, som jeg troede 100 procent pa. Ellers er stykket fuldt af flotte danseoptrin og dette kan de virkelig og det er der festen virkelig begynder og de har salen i deres hule hand. Sa er det jo en fest, at der er sa meget 80'er pop samlet pa et sted. Jeg vil gerne fremhaeve Rikke Hvidbjerg, som har en fantastisk stemme og som virkelig er et scoop for forestillingen. Desvaerre synes jeg, at Flashdance bliver lidt af en flad oplevelse, som aldrig rigtig kommer helt i gang.

In January, Steep Ensemble Member Jonathan Berry returns to Steep to direct the world premiere of Ike Holter's Red Rex, the sixth play in Holter's seven-play "Rightlynd Saga" about Chicago. Since the 2012 production of his Hit the Wall, Holter's work has gained increasing national and international attention. In describing the "Rightlynd Saga," Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune opined that it "might just be one of the most significant literary achievements in modern-day Chicago." Holter's play Rightlynd, part of the seven-play saga, is currently in production at Victory Gardens Theatre, and his Lottery Day, the final play in the saga, premieres in the Spring of 2019 at the Goodman Theatre. Director Jonathan Berry has been at the helm of many of Steep's most memorable shows, including the recent smash-hit production of Simon Stephens' Birdland.
