BIO

Janet McTeer is an acclaimed British actress whose career spans theatre, film and television. After graduating from RADA, she began her stage career with the Royal Exchange Theatre and rose to prominence in 1996 with her acclaimed performance as Nora Helmer in A Doll's House, earning Laurence Olivier and Critics' Circle Theatre Awards. The production transferred to Broadway the following year, where McTeer won the Tony Award, Theatre World Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Play. She later earned another Tony nomination for playing Mary, Queen of Scots in Mary Stuart, opposite Harriet Walter's Elizabeth I, and appeared on Broadway in God of Carnage and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. In 2018, she starred as Sarah Bernhardt in Bernhardt/Hamlet, earning another Tony nomination.


McTeer's screen career includes films such as Tumbleweeds, for which she won a Golden Globe and received an Academy Award nomination, Albert Nobbs, which earned her another Oscar nomination, The Woman in Black, Hannah Arendt and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Her television credits include The Governor, The White Queen, The Honourable Woman, Jessica Jones and Ozark, as well as an Emmy-nominated performance in Damages. She has also portrayed Clementine Churchill in Into the Storm and appeared in Phaedra at London's National Theatre. McTeer was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2014 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2008. She is set to portray Minerva McGonagall in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series.
