Tony Shalhoub

Tony Shalhoub began his career in theater after graduating from Yale, spending four seasons with the American Repertory Theater before making his Broadway debut in The Odd Couple (1985). He later appeared in The Heidi Chronicles, Conversations with My Father (1992), earning a Tony Award nomination, Waiting for Godot (1998), Lend Me a Tenor (2010), Golden Boy (2012), receiving another Tony nomination, Act One (2014), earning a third Tony nomination, Happy Days (2015), The Price (2017), and The Band's Visit, first Off-Broadway in 2016 and on Broadway in 2017. He won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for The Band's Visit.

Shalhoub rose to prominence as Antonio Scarpacci on the NBC sitcom Wings (1991–1997). He also appeared in episodes of The X-Files (1995), Frasier (1996), and Gargoyles (1995), and voiced Aradesh in the video game Fallout (1997). He starred in the NBC sitcom Stark Raving Mad (1999–2000).

His early film credits include Barton Fink (1991), Quick Change (1991), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), Addams Family Values (1993), Big Night (1996), Gattaca (1997), Men in Black (1997) and Men in Black II (2002), Paulie (1998), Primary Colors (1998), A Civil Action (1998), The Siege (1998), Galaxy Quest (1999), The Man Who Wasn't There (2001), and Thirteen Ghosts (2001). He later appeared in Spy Kids (2001), Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams (2002), Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), The Last Shot (2004), The Great New Wonderful (2006), 1408 (2007), Pain & Gain (2013), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016), Rumble (2021), and Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie (2023).

From 2002 to 2009, Shalhoub starred as Adrian Monk in the USA Network series Monk. He received eight consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (2003–2010), winning in 2003, 2005, and 2006, and also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2003. He reprised the role in the 2020 short Mr. Monk Shelters in Place and the 2023 television film Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie.

Shalhoub voiced Luigi in Cars (2006), Cars 2 (2011), Cars 3 (2017), the short series Tales from Radiator Springs (2013–2014), Cars on the Road (2022), and multiple video games in the franchise. He also earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2008 for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for narrating The Cricket in Times Square.

From 2017 to 2023, Shalhoub starred as Abe Weissman in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. For his performance, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series in 2019.
