BIO
In 1998, Matthew Rhys starred in the New Zealand television drama Greenstone and appeared in Julie Taymor’s film Titus. He followed with roles in Whatever Happened to Harold Smith?, The Testimony of Taliesin Jones, and Very Annie Mary.
In 2000, he played the lead in Granada TV’s drama series Metropolis, appeared in Peaches, starred in the West End stage adaptation of The Graduate, and acted in The Abduction Club, Tabloid, and the BBC miniseries The Lost World. Additional film credits include Deathwatch and Fakers.
In 2003, he appeared in the final episode of Columbo. Subsequent film roles included Love and Other Disasters, Virgin Territory, and The Edge of Love. He starred as Kevin Walker on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters (2006–2011).
In 2012, Rhys appeared in the BBC adaptation of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, starred in The Scapegoat, and performed Off-Broadway in Look Back in Anger. In 2013, he starred in Death Comes to Pemberley.
From 2013 to 2018, he co-starred in the FX series The Americans, earning a Primetime Emmy Award for the final season.
Later work includes the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019). In 2025, he starred in the Netflix miniseries The Beast in Me and returned to the stage in Playing Burton.
