Reeve Carney began his professional music career as a guitarist, performing at B. B. King's nightclub in Los Angeles by age 15. He released his first EP, Looking Glass, in 2004 and performed with artists including Jonny Lang. He later signed with Interscope Records and formed the rock band Carney with his brother Zane Carney, Aiden Moore and Jon Epcar. The band released the EP Nothing Without You (2008) and the album Mr. Green Vol. 1 (2010), and toured with The Veronicas in 2009 before opening for Arcade Fire and U2 on the final date of the U2 360° Tour in 2011.

Carney contributed to the Broadway charity albums Carols for a Cure in 2011 and 2013 and recorded the single "Rise Above 1" with Bono and The Edge in 2011 for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
