Review: VER IN DIE WERELD KITTIE at The Blik
by Michelle B Lewis - Jul 29, 2024
VER IN DIE WERELD KITTIE is a compelling musical that not only entertains but also educates its audience about a lesser-known chapter of Afrikaans folk music history. It’s a poignant reminder of the often-overlooked contributions of individuals like Kittie Jaftha and Koos Heuningbek, whose cultural legacy lives on through their songs.

Review: A Stunning WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ALL THAT BEAUTY? at Contemporary American Theater Festival
by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jul 10, 2024
This is an important play, to be considered a peer of Angels in America and The Inheritance, a sweeping two-play multigeneration account of the impact of AIDS on the American gay community -- with the difference that this one focuses on men and women of color. It may suffer from some lack of restraint and melodrama, but it makes up for it with the depth and breadth of its consideration, the power of the acting, and the force of its polemic concerning the beauty of the gay community and its members, the care shown by its caretakers, and the importance of creating records. You could feel the love in the play, and fall in love with the characters.
Review: ROMANOV FAMILY YARD SALE at Kranzberg Black Box Theater
by James Lindhorst - Jul 7, 2024
ROMANOV FAMILY YARD SALE has as many laughs as the stuff the family is trying to purge. While there is always “another funny bit,” the story works because the audiences’ hearts beat in unison with their new friends the Romanovs. It is an immersive theatrical experience that is oddly patriotic and filled with wit, charm, silliness, and a little melancholic bittersweetness. After visiting the ROMANOV FAMILY YARD SALE I want to grab my family and friends and drag them by the nape of their necks to meet the Romanovs and shop their treasures.
