BIO

Kecia Lewis made her Broadway debut at age 18 in the original production of Dreamgirls as a replacement for Edna Burke and understudy for Effie White. She went on to appear in Ain't Misbehavin', originated the role of Asaka in Once on This Island, and later created the role of Trix the Aviatrix in The Drowsy Chaperone. She earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for Dessa Rose, an Obie Award and Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Marie and Rosetta, and appeared in the Broadway revival of Children of a Lesser God. Lewis originated the role of music educator Miss Liza Jane in the Off-Broadway production of Hell's Kitchen in 2023 and reprised the role in the Broadway transfer in 2024, winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award, while also receiving Drama League and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. Her screen credits include recurring roles in Mad About You, The Passage, The Blacklist, and Law & Order, as well as the 2022 film The Independent. Lewis also teaches acting at the Atlantic Acting School. In 2026, she appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of The Whoopi Monologues at Lincoln Center Theater.
