Jorrel Javier is a Philippines born, Southern California transplant raised in Torrance, CA. He now resides in New York, NY. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Musical Theatre (c/o ‘18) from Texas State University, under the direction of Kaitlin Hopkins. During his time there, Jorrel had the privilege of training under Jim Price, Michael Maresca, Kiira Schmidt, Laura Lane, Darren Gibson, Bob Krakower, and Cassie Abate.
A devoted Spoken Word Artist, he regularly performs in poetry slams and open mics. Jorrel was a featured speaker at the Second Annual TEDxTexasStateUniversity (2017) and a featured poet the year prior (2016). His TEDxTalk can be found here. He also wrote, produced, and starred in a reading of his Honors Thesis, "PUSSY UP! A One Act Show Exploring the Effects of Heteronormativity and Microaggressions in LBGTQIA+ Youth." He was the founder and President of the SLAM! Spoken Word and Poetry Club (2016-2017) at Texas State University, and was a regular competitor at the Austin Poetry Slam at the Spider House Ballroom in Austin, Texas during his time in school.
