Review: THE CHILDREN at West End Players Guild is Fascinating, Well Directed, and Exquisitely Acted
by James Lindhorst - Feb 16, 2026

Lucy Kirkwood’s play The Children is fascinating and compelling. Her script prompts discussion about corporate responsibility, what accountability an organization’s employees should own, and how tragic circumstances force people to face personal transgressions and the fallout from their poor decisions.
Review: South Coast Repertory Presents GOD OF CARNAGE
by Michael Quintos - Feb 10, 2026

Wildly surprising and deliciously savage, Yasmina Reza's machete-edged 2006 dark comedy GOD OF CARNAGE—here directed by Marco Barricelli and continues performances at OC's South Coast Repertory through March 21, 2026—has to be one of the most ferocious dissections of modern-day performative civility ever to grace the stage—an 80-minute, intermission-less pressure cooker that gleefully burns away the polite veneer of bourgeois adulthood to reveal the petulant, immature children actually lurking just beneath. Boosted by a foursome of terrific actors, the play endures as entertainingly voyeuristic in its unsettling relatability. SCR's outstanding production is a brilliantly observed theatrical skirmish—equal parts comedy of manners and psychological boxing match with no clear winners or losers.

Previews: GOD OF CARNAGE at TampaRep
by Deborah Bostock-Kelley - Jan 15, 2026

TampaRep’s upcoming production of God of Carnage promises an uncomfortably funny, sharply intimate experience under the direction of Alexis Carra, who has updated the play to 2026 and staged it in the round to heighten its immediacy. Carra calls the story “painfully current,” noting how quickly the characters’ polished civility collapses.

What Are American Theatre’s Most Influential Titles?
by Howard Sherman - Dec 22, 2025

Amidst the welter of Best of and Most lists for 2025, American Theatre magazine took on a wider time horizon in its survey of the most influential theatre titles of the last 25 years, or quarter-century if you prefer. Like any such list, the results are fascinating and immediately provide a foundation for debate, disagreement and discussion, but this was no list cobbled together from the opinions of the magazine’s staff, as is often the case with such efforts, but a genuine survey.

Travelogue: The Musings of a Regional Theater Critic's Week in New York City
by James Lindhorst - Dec 9, 2025

There is nothing like the holidays in New York City. Ice skating under the iconic Rockefeller Center Tree, watching the Rockettes high kick in Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular, eating your way through the Winter Village in Bryant Park, and admiring the decorated storefront windows on 5th Avenue is unforgettable. But for this regional theater critic, all the holiday hoopla (which I enjoyed) is secondary to attending live theater in Manhattan.
