BIO
Madeline Brewer is best known for her portrayal of Janine in Hulu’s Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning series “The Handmaid’s Tale”, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The sixth and final season of the series, based on Margaret Atwood’s best-selling novel, was released in April 2025 to wide critical acclaim. Madeline most recently starred in Lionsgate’s thriller Anniversary alongside Kyle Chandler, Phoebe Dynevor, Diane Lane, and Zoey Deutch. She also appeared in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s “You” opposite Penn Badgley, portraying Bronte, an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright who joins Joe Goldberg’s bookstore staff and sparks in him a nostalgia for his former self, prompting him to question the life he has built. The season quickly rose to the number one spot on Netflix’s global charts. Madeline’s theater work includes her acclaimed turn as Sally Bowles in the Olivier Award–winning London production of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre, where she starred opposite Callum Scott Howells. She most recently be seen Off Broadway as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors at the Westside Theatre. She will also soon appear Off Broadway in the world-premiere of The Disappear, a new comedy from Audible Theater, where she is cast alongside Kelvin Harrison Jr., Dylan Baker, and Hamish Linklater. Her film work includes Hustlers from STX Entertainment, where she starred alongside Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival; leading roles in the Blumhouse and Netflix thriller CAM, which premiered at the AFI Festival and is available on Netflix; and Braid, directed by Mitzi Peirone, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Additional credits include Focus Features’ Captive State, directed by Rupert Wyatt and featuring Ashton Sanders and Vera Farmiga; The Ultimate Playlist of Noise for Hulu and American High, alongside Keean Johnson; Space Oddity, directed by Kyra Sedgwick with Kevin Bacon and Alexandra Shipp, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival; I Live Here Now with Lucy Fry; the thriller Where Are You with Anthony Hopkins and Angela Sarafyan; as well as Flesh and Blood, directed by Mark Webber, which premiered at SXSW; Hedgehog with Ann Dowd, which screened at Cinequest; and Open Road’s Separation with Brian Cox and Rupert Friend. Madeline made her television debut as fan-favorite Tricia Miller in Netflix’s original comedy-drama series “Orange is the New Black”, created by Jenji Kohan. She also starred in Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “Black Mirror”, in the episode “Men Against Fire,” with Malachi Kirby and Michael Kelly. Other television roles include Miranda Cates in Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove for Netflix, Julie Kelly in Bret Easton Ellis’ series The Deleted for Fullscreen, and guest roles on Grimm and Stalker. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Pitman, NJ, Madeline is a graduate of AMDA, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, in New York City, where she studied musical theater. Immediately after graduating, she landed the lead role in the world premiere of Liberty: The Musical. Madeline is also a classically trained singer.
