What did our critic think of MEAN GIRLS at Cultural Arts Playhouse? The 2018 smash-hit musical MEAN GIRLS, based on the 2004 cult classic is playing at the Cultural Arts Playhouse in Merrick. Directed by Taneisha Corbin, the production is bursting at the seams with energy and electricity.

Cady, the new student who learns that high school is like the jungles of Africa. She “Meets the Plastics” the top of the high school hierarchy, and learns how cruel queen bee, Regina George, is and her friends Janice and Damian create a “Revenge Party” to bring Regina down. We see each characters' growth, just as we all did through high school.

Featuring dynamic choreography from director Casey Nicholaw and new songs from Fey's hubby Jeff Richmond and lyricist Nell Benjamin, this stage adaptation of the cult hit movie (that will also soon be re-adapted into a movie musical) admirably recreates its quote-heavy 'fetch'-ness and anthropological commentary for the social media age.
Renee Rapp is currently in the midst of filming the movie musical adaptation of Mean Girls, reprising her Broadway role as Regina George. Rapp gave an update to Michael Strahan about their filming progress before the performance.
