BIO

Amith Chandrashaker is an Indian-American cinematographer and director who has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry with his unique visual style and technical expertise.

Born in Bangalore, India, Chandrashaker moved to the United States to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he was awarded the prestigious Martin Scorsese Young Filmmaker Award for his short film "The Last Word."
Chandrashaker began his career as a cinematographer working on independent films and music videos. His work quickly caught the attention of industry professionals and he soon found himself working on larger productions. He made his Broadway debut as the cinematographer for the Tony Award-winning musical "Once," which was based on the 2007 film of the same name.
Chandrashaker's work on "Once" was praised for its intimate and immersive cinematography, which helped to bring the story's music and characters to life. His use of handheld cameras and natural lighting gave the production a raw and authentic feel that resonated with audiences and critics alike.
Following his success on Broadway, Chandrashaker continued to work on a variety of film and television projects. He served as the cinematographer for the critically acclaimed indie film "The Fits," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2015. The film, which was directed by Anna Rose Holmer, tells the story of a young girl who joins a dance troupe and begins to experience mysterious seizures. Chandrashaker's cinematography helped to create a haunting and dreamlike atmosphere that perfectly complemented the film's surreal storyline.
Chandrashaker also worked as the cinematographer for the hit Netflix series "Master of None," which was created by and stars comedian Aziz Ansari. The show, which explores the life of a young actor in New York City, was praised for its sharp writing, diverse cast, and innovative cinematography. Chandrashaker's work on the show earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series.
In addition to his work as a cinematographer, Chandrashaker has also directed several short films and music videos. His short film "Raja" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017 and tells the story of a young Indian-American boy who is torn between his love for dance and his father's expectations. The film, which was shot entirely on an iPhone, was praised for its inventive and visually stunning cinematography.
Chandrashaker's most recent work includes the critically acclaimed HBO series "Insecure," which was created by and stars comedian Issa Rae. The show, which explores the complexities of modern relationships and race in America, has been praised for its sharp writing, diverse cast, and innovative cinematography. Chandrashaker's work on the show has earned him widespread recognition and he was named one of Variety's "10 Cinematographers to Watch" in 2017.
Overall, Amith Chandrashaker is a talented and innovative cinematographer and director who has made a significant impact on the entertainment industry. His unique visual style and technical expertise have helped to bring a wide range of stories to life on stage, screen, and beyond.
