Twelfth Night

Public Works, The Public Theater's local and national initiative that invites diverse communities across New York to join in creating ambitious works of theater, celebrates its fourth year with a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT.

From August 22 through September 3, 2016, the award-winning Ducdame Ensemble will perform Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice.

Black Box Studios presents the first fully­produced show of the 2016­-17 season, Black Box Studios' inaugural season of professional theatre: a new production of Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon (B'way 2016-­17 season: Significant Other), directed by Black Box Performing Arts Center's Artistic Director, Matt Okin.

Only one other writer could compete with Shakespeare for the title of the most quoted playwright, and that is Oscar Wilde. Long Beach playhouse takes on an all female cast with The Importance of Being Earnest directed by 'Phie Mura in the Studio.

The Old Globe presents the final offering in the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival: William Shakespeare's unabashed celebration of innocence, idealism, and the sweet folly of young love, Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. This delightful romantic comedy will run now through September 18, 2016, in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Opening night is Saturday, August 20. Casting has been announced for first major revival of Caryl Churchill's BLUE HEART, nearly 20 years after its Royal Court premiere, co-produced by Tobacco Factory Theatres and the Orange Tree Theatre. Blue Heart brings them together to work again with key creatives David Mercatali and Angela Davies, who have worked on previous projects with both organisations. Little Theatre of Manchester continues its production of the irresistible romantic comedy TWELFTH NIGHT, playing August 19-21 and 26-28, 2016, at Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Rd, Manchester. Trinacria Theatre Company presents its inaugural theatrical production, La Storia di Colapesce at INTAR Theatre. The production is an original piece created and devised by the company during a 4-week residency in Sicily, at the Istituto San Placido Calonero in the Messina region of Sicily. The cast of La Storia di Colapesce is comprised of an ensemble of eight American theatre artists. The Trinacria Theatre Company's mission is to use theatre as a tool to promote Sicilian history, heritage, and culture at home and abroad.

Sheffield Theatres and English Touring Theatre today announce full casting for Phillip Breen's adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's classic novel LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER, which opens at the Crucible on 26 September before a UK tour to Oxford, York, Malvern, Salisbury, Brighton and Cambridge. Breen directs a cast including Hedydd Dylan as Lady Chatterley and Jonah Russellas Mellors. The company is completed by Aretha Ayeh, Will Irvine, Ciaran McIntyre, Eugene O'Hare, David Osmond, Rachel Sanders and Alice Selwyn.

After exploring the Greeks last year, Ombelico Mask Ensemble is scrambling up the 2016 Philadelphia Fringe Festival with their madcap exploration of Shakespeare, Omeletto, Like Hamlet Only Scrambled. In the 60th anniversary year of A.A Milne's death and the 90th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh's publication, Close Quarter Productions, in association with Jermyn Street Theatre, today announces a new production of Milne's play THE DOVER ROAD. Nichola McAuliffe directs Stefan Berdnarczyk, Tom Durant-Pritchard, Katrina Gibson, Georgia Maguire, Gareth McLeod, Patrick Ryecart and James Sheldon in the production opening at Jermyn Street Theatre, on Tuesday 6 September running until Saturday 1 October.

The Off-Broadway smash Ruthless! The Musical will end its 14-month run on September 10th, prior to a national tour which will kick off in November -- finalized dates will be announced soon.

Artistic Director of The Print Room at the Coronet Anda Winters today announces the full cast for Tennessee Williams' rarely performed A LOVELY SUNDAY IN CREVE COEUR, which opens the theatre's new Autumn season. Michael Oakley directs Debbie Chazen as Bodey, Hermione Gulliford as Helena, Laura Rogers as Dorothea and Julia Watson as Miss Gluck. The production opens in the main theatre space on 15 September, with previews from 12 September and runs until 7 October.

For select performances of its production of TWELFTH NIGHT, Little Theatre of Manchester will offer a pre-show picnic-style meal outside on Cheney Hall's patio.

The Public Theater recently announced that Louis Cancelmi, last seen as Caliban in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, had stepped into the company of Troilus and Cressida as Achilles, replacing David Harbour, who suffered an injury during previews and will be unable to complete the run. The play celebrates its opening tonight, August 9, after a short delay.

ALGONQUIN THEATER PRODUCTIONS and JASON HEWITT proudly present the world premiere of On the Rails, a new musical with book by Tony Sportiello (Second Chance, National Pastime), music and lyrics by Al Tapper (Sessions, An Evening at the Carlyle), arrangements and musical direction by David Wolfson, and directed by Misti B. The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced that Harry Hepple (Baker), Steffan Lloyd-Evans (Wolf/ Cinderella's Prince) and Laura Tebbutt (Baker's Wife) will join the company of Fiasco's enchanting reinvention of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's masterpiece INTO THE WOODS. Gloucester Stage Company continues its 37th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with a limited run of Jason Robert Brown's Songs For A New World from August 4 through August 27 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Songs For A New World with music and lyrics by three time Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown is a stirring musical journey examining the moments of decision and difficult choices faced in everyday life. Known for such Broadway hits as Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, and The Last Five Years, Mr. Brown artfully blends pop, jazz and gospel in solos and ensemble styles to create this inspiring song cycle.  Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Robert Walsh, the production features five singers including Tony Award nominee Barbara Walsh, Broadway veterans Rockport's Wendy Waring and Jack Donahue, Berklee College of Music graduate Chris Pittman and  Brandeis' Nyah Macklin, all four in their Gloucester Stage debut. Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC), under the co-leadership of Artistic Directors Andrew Borba and Vivienne Benesch, brings its 33rd season to a close with William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew directed by Andrew Borba and featuring the outstanding talents of its entire 2016 Conservatory company onstage and off to produce this comedy masterpiece. The Taming of the Shrew plays August 12 - 19 on the Bratton Theater stage at the Chautauqua Institution. Opening night is Saturday, August 13 at 6pm. Tickets are $35 and are currently on sale.

Broadway meets Elvis in the 2004 jukebox musical All Shook Up, playing this Friday and Saturday at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. Featuring some of the king's hit songs, including "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Burning Love," the show is presented by a group of teens ages 18 and under through the theatre's annual Broadway Camp.

Victory Gardens Theater announces casting for its first show of its 42st season, Hand To God by Robert Askins, directed by Gary Griffin.

Pulitzer Arts Foundation and Shakespeare Festival St. Louis present Love's Labor, an original work of theatre exploring the question of what makes and breaks a home, from August 19-21, 2016. Using a combination of scenes from some of Shakespeare's most iconic works, such as Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, this play tells the modern-day story of a married couple on the brink of divorce, looking back at their thirty-year history together. Performed within three exhibitions on view at the Pulitzer-each relating to the material aspects of everyday life through radically different styles and mediums-the play unfolds gallery by gallery, bringing new life to the artwork on view.

Primary Stages, in association with Catherine Adler, Jamie deRoy, and David Richenthal, has announced complete casting for the first show of the 2016/17 season, THE ROADS TO HOME, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Horton Foote (Harrison, TX).
