BWW Reviews: DUNSINANE Concocts a Credible Sequel to Shakespeare's Scottish Play PhotosBWW Reviews: DUNSINANE Concocts a Credible Sequel to Shakespeare's Scottish Play
by Shari Barrett

(3/30/2015) - What happens when two of the world's most extraordinary theater companies, the England's Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre of Scotland, make the decision to work together on a sequel to Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, one of his darkest and most powerful works? It's no less than a magical combination of talent that makes an improbable tale seem to be the essence of truth about sex, politics and power. Patricia Wolff, Interim Artistic Director of The Wallis adds, "David Greig's thrilling new drama brilliantly straddles the ancient and modern worlds, playing like a cross between "Game of Thrones" and "House of Cards."

(3/30/2015) - It happens every time the NYC school kids see some romantic activity on stage. The squeals, oohs & aahs from the youngsters are a delight to hear. It's a first time Broadway experience for most of them. The school busses were lined up early at The Lyric Theatre for the 10:15 & 1:15 special mini performances by some of the cast members of the hit show On The Town. Michael Presser and all the folks involved with 'Inside Broadway Creating The Magic' make it possible for hundreds of school children to get a behind the scenes look at the workings of a Broadway Show.

by Stephen Sorokoff

(3/30/2015) - The Metropolitan Room became one of those Art Deco Night Clubs in a1940 Black & White Movie last night. Harking back to the days when the girl singers had that luscious, sensual, understated, but spectacular voices and musicianship that made every person in the room fall in love with them. Although I have ears that sometimes show signs of wear and tear from a lifetime of hearing a lot of stuff, Celia's ability to annunciate and melodically roll out lyrics had me hearing vowels and consonants I usually miss in a crowded noisy cabaret. Come to think of it, the Metropolitan Room had the quietness of a recording studio as the very musically sophisticated audience was held in rapt attention by Celia's artistry. I would be enamored with any song she wrapped her voice around, but her unique song selection made the evening especially compelling. How fitting it was the Stacy Sullivan and Joanne Tatham were in the audience. Two singers that represent that same kind of sexy, restrained and understated musical excellence that Celia Berk possesses. It was also ironic that the title song of the show ( You Can't Rush Spring) was written by another of my favorite ladies - Ann Hampton Callaway.

BWW Reviews: Portland Players Gives Sensitive Reading of BOYS NEXT DOOR PhotosBWW Reviews: Portland Players Gives Sensitive Reading of BOYS NEXT DOOR
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold

(3/30/2015) - Portland Players has mounted a sensitive and thought-provoking production of Tom Griffin's 1988 play, Boys Next Door, about four colorful residents of a group communal home and their social worker. Griffin's work deals perceptively and sympathetically with the limitations and hopes of his characters, their skewed realities and their often hilarious interactions. In the person of Jack, the burned-out, yet compassionate counselor, the playwright is able to help the audience gain insight into the world of these mentally challenged adults and to appreciate their humanity.

BWW Reviews: GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! Hold Onto Your Hats! PhotosBWW Reviews: GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! Hold Onto Your Hats!
by Christine Swerczek

(3/30/2015) - GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! is ridiculous! Cathy Hirsch (the Candy Project) assembled a whole cast of zany characters within two award-winning actors- Dan Chevalier (Bud Davenport +others) and Steve Krambeck (Doug Simon +others). These two guys wear a multitude of hats (literally and figuratively) in this two act musical by Anthony King and Scott Brown. The story centers on Bud's and Doug's scant research of Johannes Gutenberg and his invention of the printing press. Fast paced, satiric, and just plain stupid fun, this production is a sure hit, particularly combined with good beer and great pizza at Pizza Shoppe Collective in Omaha.

by Roy Berko

(3/30/2015) - Some people go to the theatre to be educated. Some go to see/listen to a pleasing combination of music and lyrics enclosed in a story. Others go to just have a good time. The latter group should run to their phones or computers right now and make reservations for LEND ME A TENOR. Beck's production is farce at its finest!

(3/29/2015) - In the midst of the season of repentance for Catholics comes a musical drenched in symbolism. Begging answers to serious dilemmas that young people now face with the unchanging church. Bare: A Pop Musical does for the religious community what Rent did to the society at large regarding AIDS. It cries out for reformation through heart wrenching melodies.
