by Guest Blogger: Christopher Vo

(9/22/2014) - One of the wonderful things about live theater is that each audience member's experience is different. For me, a favorite aspect of live theater is its ability to suspend disbelief and to transport the audience to the world being presented onstage. When it's done well, immersion into the story-telling and production can make the audience forget, at least for a moment, that they are watching a bunch of actors in a play. The experience envelopes them, and before long the audience is crying and laughing along with the characters on the stage.

BWW Reviews: CPH Examines Greed, Ambition and Misguided Principles in THE LITTLE FOXES PhotosBWW Reviews: CPH Examines Greed, Ambition and Misguided Principles in THE LITTLE FOXES
by Roy Berko

(9/22/2014) - Lillian Hellman, author of 'The Little Foxes,' which is now in production at the Cleveland Playhouse, was a rebel with many causes. An independent woman in an era before the women's rights and liberation movements, she had strong political and societal opinions. Because of her liberal affiliations she was blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee. She was 'a smoker, a drinker, a lover, and a fighter, who took stands against and placed a negative spotlight on greed, ambition and misguided principles.' She was an advocate for the downtrodden. These principles are at the foundation of 'The Little Foxes.'

(9/22/2014) - Mixed in are the confused chuckles of the younger audience, but they soon, as well, become loud bellows as everyone watches Janasz stand at the edge of the stage, nearly on the edge, shouting at the top of his lungs, 'WE LICKED POSTAGE STAMPS.'

by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold

(9/22/2014) - As has been the tradition for quite a few seasons, Theater at Monmouth ends its season with a production of one of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operettas. This year's choice, The Sorcerer, is a frothy, pleasant entertainment enhanced by the strong vocal merits of much of the cast. The pristine neo- baroque gem of a theatre in Cumston Hall is the perfect venue for singing. The acoustic - unmiked - is crisp, clear, focused, and allows for the ringing delivery and coloratura fun of Sullivan's music.
