BIO
Houchen is a British stage actor and producer who has built a varied career across the West End, concert performances, and international productions. He began his professional career in 2013, taking on the role of Marius Pontmercy in Les Misérables at London’s Queen’s Theatre, a role he would return to multiple times throughout his career.
He continued to expand his musical theatre résumé with roles in productions such as Titanic, Eugenius!, and the Japan 30th Anniversary Gala of Les Misérables. In 2019, he appeared as Fabrizio Naccarelli in the London premiere of The Light in the Piazza alongside Dove Cameron and Renée Fleming. The production later transferred to the Los Angeles Opera with the same principal cast. That same year, he reprised Marius in the staged concert version of Les Misérables at the Gielgud Theatre.
In 2020, Houchen joined the West End transfer of City of Angels at the Garrick Theatre, appearing alongside Vanessa Williams. The production’s run was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He returned to the West End stage in 2022 as part of Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends: A Celebration, a tribute to the late composer Stephen Sondheim, staged by Matthew Bourne and Maria Friedman. The concert featured a star-studded lineup including Michael Ball, Judi Dench, Bernadette Peters, and Jenna Russell.
Also in 2022, Houchen played Lieutenant Joseph Cable in a major revival of South Pacific at Chichester Festival Theatre, which transferred to venues including Manchester Opera House and Sadler’s Wells before touring the UK. The cast featured Julian Ovenden, Gina Beck, and Joanna Ampil.
In December 2024, Houchen joined the West End premiere of Titanique at the Criterion Theatre, starring as Jack in a cast that included Lauren Drew and Jordan Luke Gage.
Beyond performing, Houchen is also an active theatre producer and the founder of Chorus Productions. In 2024, he supported a charity concert of I Am Harvey Milk at Cadogan Hall, benefiting Stonewall. In 2025, he joined the studio recording cast of Jo, the Little Women Musical as Laurie, with the album scheduled for release that year alongside a planned semi-staged presentation.
