Matt Tierney is an American actor with a diverse range of credits on stage, television, and film. Born and raised in New York City, Tierney discovered his passion for acting at a young age and began performing in local theater productions. He went on to study theater at the prestigious Juilliard School, where he honed his craft and developed his unique style.
Tierney's Broadway debut came in 2005 when he was cast in the revival of David Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross." He played the role of James Lingk, a timid and nervous client who is pressured into buying real estate by the ruthless salesmen of a Chicago real estate office. The production, which starred Alan Alda, Liev Schreiber, and Frederick Weller, received critical acclaim and earned Tierney a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
Following his success in "Glengarry Glen Ross," Tierney continued to work steadily in theater, appearing in productions both on and off Broadway. He starred in the New York premiere of "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" by Martin McDonagh, a dark comedy about a terrorist group in Ireland. Tierney played the role of Padraic, a ruthless and violent member of the group who returns home to seek revenge for the death of his cat.
In addition to his work on stage, Tierney has also made a name for himself on television and in film. He has appeared in several popular television shows, including "Law & Order: SVU," "The Blacklist," and "The Americans." He also had a recurring role on the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire," playing the character of Agent Knox, a determined and ambitious FBI agent.
Tierney's film credits include "The Devil Wears Prada," "The Other Guys," and "The Bourne Legacy." He has also worked with acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, appearing in his films "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Silence."
Despite his success in television and film, Tierney remains committed to his work in theater. In 2017, he starred in the off-Broadway production of "The Amateurs" by Jordan Harrison. The play, which explores the power of storytelling and the role of theater in society, received critical acclaim and was praised for its innovative staging and powerful performances.
