He won the 1994 Obie Award for his performance in The Royal Family, as well as the 1996 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for his role in the off-Broadway production of "The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told." Additionally, McGrath earned a nomination for the 1999 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in the Broadway production of "The Last Five Years."
