Harriet Harris Biography

Any successful wedding requires something old and something new. The prospect of walking down the aisle with old friends in an original Broadway musical is irresistible to me. Perhaps, the something borrowed and something blue had best be sorted out in rehearsal. Recent Broadway: Encores: Mrs. Eggleston in Little Me, Madame, the tragically misunderstood stepmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella Broadway. I have appeared as other near perfect or deeply flawed women in, Present Laughter, Cry Baby: The Musical, Old Acquaintance, and The Man Who Came to Dinner. In 2002 I received the Tony and Drama Desk Awards for Featured Actress in a Musical as Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie. This past year, much to the surprise of my former glee club members, I made my debut at the San Francisco Opera in Show Boat. Off Broadway: Standing on Ceremony, Yeast Nation, Jeffrey (Drama Desk nomination), Bella, Belle of Byelorussia (Drama Desk nomination), Christmas on Mars, and Rude Entertainment. Regional appearances include, Guthrie Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Kennedy Center. Film credits include: Love Is Strange, Memento, Nurse Betty, Addams Family Values. TV credits include: √Ę‚ā¨ŇďDesperate Housewives√Ę‚ā¨¬Ě ( as Felicia Tillman), √Ę‚ā¨ŇďFrasier√Ę‚ā¨¬Ě ( as agent Bebe Glazer). Member of the Acting Company, AEA.

by BroadwayWorld TV - Apr 2, 2020

BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge continues his journey with the latest  Broadway Rewind, which  takes the audience to Town Hall for the 4th annual ABC Daytime Salutes BC/EFA, but we start things off by meeting the company and bringing you a sneak peek at the Broadway musical Cry Baby, which is based on the hit John Waters film. It starred James Snyder, Elizabeth Stanley and Harriet Harris. Waters told me how he felt about being asked to turn one of his other hit films into a Broadway musical. 'I was thrilled because I had just had such a wonderful experience with Hairspray and to be honest, Cry Baby was the only real musical movie I ever made. Hairspray was a dance movie. The music in this is such a breath of new talent on Broadway.'

by Alan Henry - Jul 18, 2019

THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH is one of two Pulitzer Prize winning plays by Thorton Wilder. Though the other, OUR TOWN, is far better known and far more frequently produced. The title comes from a phrase in the book of Job (19:20) and refers to the commonly used expression: to have escaped by the skin of one's teeth. The biblical reference is rather fitting. Like the bible, this play is meant to express an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material form; a symbolical narrative. Biblical references are woven through this allegorical play that in the course of three acts spans thousands of years of human experience.
