Relaxing has always been a difficult state of mind for me but over the years, as I approach a certain age - my close friends will tell you I have been 30 for ever and even they don't really know how old I am - I am increasingly throwing caution to the wind and appreciating holiday/vacation time (more...)

BWW Review: AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is Lighter Than Air at the Orpheum Theatre

Delicious dancing, gorgeous design, and great Gershwin songs are a joy but can't mask the musical theatre shortcomings of another film-to-stage transfer in AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. (more...)

BWW Reviews: MOTHERF**KER Captivates at Dobama
by Roy Berko - Oct 1, 2012

THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT, the play that dare not speak its name, has a lot to say. In spite of the almost immediate negative reaction of some people to the title, the production makes for a very compelling evening of theatre. Congrats to Dobama for not steering away from the script because of the title and the realistic language. (more...)

BWW Review: LA SOIREE, Spiegeltent, Leicester Square, 17 November 2016
by Cindy Marcolina - Nov 18, 2016

After a successful world tour that saw over 75 artists with over 150 acts touch the hearts of more than twenty-five cities in both hemispheres, La Soiree comes back home where they started off their adventure eight years ago. The show graces the atmospheric setting of the Spiegeltent at Christmas in Leicester Square, and act after act the show is jaw-dropping. From a powerhouse singer to a trapeze artist, from a hola-hooping sensation to vaudeville slapstick comedians, you can rest assured you won't be disappointed. (more...)

BWW Reviews: RePlay je t'aime!
by Nino Prattico - Nov 12, 2013

(more...)

BWW Reviews: THE 39 STEPS from Tennessee Repertory Theatre
by Jeffrey Ellis - Mar 20, 2011

There is an embarrassment of riches on display in Tennessee Repertory Theatre's production of The 39 Steps - not the least of which is the cumulative effort of four of Nashville's finest actors showing off everything in their estimable bag of tricks to bring this enormously entertaining play to life. Add to those efforts another stunning set by Gary Hoff, Trish Clark's period-perfect costumes, Michael Barnett's gorgeous lighting and Paul Carrol Binkley's stellar sound design and you clearly have one of the season's most successful offerings, technically and artistically delivered. DOMINIQUE LEVY's Post-War and Contemporary GRISAILLE Masterworks Presented at Art Basel 2015
by BWW News Desk - Jun 2, 2015

In 1625, Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens wrote that he was creating an oil sketch of the Three Graces using opalescent gray and warm brown hues— “en grisaille et non couleurs”— thus giving name to the practice of intentional chromatic reduction in painting and sculpture that has become an enduring paradigm of artistic practice to the present day. BWW Exclusive Interviews: Daniela Ziegler
by Marcel Konrath - Jun 1, 2012

(more...)

BWW Review: La BSMT porta Broadway in Bolognina con ASSASSINS e BERNARDA ALBA
by Valeria Venturelli - Jul 5, 2017

CABARET LIFE NYC: Anatomy of a Duo Show--Classy, Entertaining, Yet Flawed KT Sullivan/Jeff Harnar Sondheim Set at the Beechman Is All About Choices
by Stephen Hanks - Jul 25, 2014

The current Stephen Sondheim tribute show, Our Time, starring KT Sullivan and Jeff Harnar at the Laurie Beechman (which I attended on July 9 and 16; there are two more Wednesday performances at 6pm on August 6, 13), is a charming, classy, and entertaining affair. But it also includes enough flaws in execution that prevent it from being truly great. For one thing, it doesn't really feel like a duo show. It's more like two solo performances within one show, where the performers fit in a couple of numbers together to justify the concept. A critique of the Sullivan/Harnar Sondheim set provides an interesting opportunity to analyze the anatomy of a duo show and the choices that can make it work—or not. (more...)

BWW Reviews: South Coast Rep Stages Lovely OC Production of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
by Michael L. Quintos - Feb 10, 2014

Truly one of the most elegant, though underrated musicals of the new century, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA---now on stage in a lovely new production at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through February 23---follows the uneasy journey that a loving, though over-protective mother must embark on when her daughter discovers the wonderfully vulnerable world of adult love. Filled with a gorgeously sweeping score by Adam Guettel and an insanely talented cast, this Italian journey surely ranks as one of the best, most attractive musicals SCR has mounted in recent years.
