After some speculation that the musical big screen adaptation of The Color Purple would again move its opening day amidst the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, Variety is reporting that the film will stick with its planned opening of Christmas Day, December 25, 2023.

Amidst the ongoing strikes, Warner Bros. may be shifting the release date for the upcoming movie musical adaptation of The Color Purple. This comes as the result of the strikes of SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America, who are fighting producers for new contracts.

Among the members who signed the statement of support for the CROWN Act are Audra McDonald, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kerry Washington, and dozens of other performers. In the letter, members assert, “Discrimination based on hair style or texture is a destructive practice that has alienated and caused irreparable harm to Black Americans.”
