Eddie Redmayne

BIO

Redmayne made his professional stage debut as Viola in Twelfth Night at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2002. In 2004, he appeared in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? at the Almeida Theatre, winning the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer, followed by the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Newcomer in 2005. He starred in Now or Later at the Royal Court Theatre from September to November 2008. In 2009, he appeared in John Logan’s Red at the Donmar Warehouse, winning the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and reprised the role on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre from March to June 2010, earning the 2010 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He portrayed the title role in Richard II at the Donmar Warehouse from December 2011 to February 2012, receiving the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Shakespearean Performance. In 2021, he starred as the Emcee in a West End revival of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre, winning the 2022 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. The production transferred to Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre in April 2024, where he received a 2024 Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.



Redmayne made his screen debut in 1998 in Animal Ark. His television credits include Tess of the d’Urbervilles (2008), The Pillars of the Earth (2010), and Birdsong (2012). He made his feature film debut in Like Minds (2006) and subsequently appeared in The Good Shepherd (2006), Savage Grace (2007), Powder Blue (2008), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), Glorious 39 (2009), Black Death (2010), The Yellow Handkerchief (2010), Hick (2011), and My Week with Marilyn (2011). In 2012, he played Marius in Les Misérables.

In 2014, he portrayed Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, winning the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. In 2015, he appeared in Jupiter Ascending, presented the documentary War Art with Eddie Redmayne, guest-starred in Thomas & Friends: Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure, and starred in The Danish Girl (released 2016), earning a second consecutive Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He began portraying Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), reprising the role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). He also voiced a role in Early Man (2018).

In 2020, Redmayne appeared as Tom Hayden in The Trial of the Chicago 7. In 2022, he starred as Charles Cullen in The Good Nurse, receiving nominations for a Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2024, he starred in and produced the television series The Day of the Jackal, earning nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.
