Review: ALL MY SONS, starring Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste
by Cindy Marcolina - Nov 22, 2025

This is Ivo van Hove’s triumphant return to the West End. He reunites with Bryan Cranston (whom he worked with on Network at the National theatre in 2017) for Arthur Miller’s All My Sons – famously, the playwright’s last attempt at writing a commercial success. Van Hove assembles a tremendous company (Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Paapa Essiedu, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Hayley Squires) to dissect the exploitative nature of the American Dream, giving a jarring picture of family and loyalty. This is, on the surface, quite the stylistic departure for van Hove. The director decided that less is more here and the result is astonishing.

Review: Met Season’s First DON GIOVANNI Shows Off a Great Score for the Audience to Relish
by Richard Sasanow - Sep 26, 2025

Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI was one of my first operas and remains among my favorites, despite its misogyny and the difficulty in putting together the kind of cast that can do justice to the string of show-stoppers in the score. The season's premiere of the opera had much to admire.

RAIN Opens at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen This Month
by Stephi Wild - Sep 9, 2024

Rain by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, set to music by Steve Reich, is one big, vibrant dance party. The choreography is a key work from the middle period of De Keersmaeker’s development, in which she further explores her fascination for Reich’s minimalist music.

Review: OPENING NIGHT, Gielgud Theatre
by Aliya Al-Hassan - Mar 27, 2024

Now a stage musical, John Cassavetes’ 1977 film Opening Night was a commercial flop when it was released, later becoming something of a cult classic of American independent cinema. Director Ivo Van Hove specialises in bringing work to the stage that may be called “challenging”. Challenging can be hugely successful, but I’ve rarely seen a production more determined to confuse and frustrate an audience.
