Jan Versweyveld is a scenographer and lighting designer. He trained at the Sint-Lucas Institute in Brussels and at the Royal Academy in Antwerp, Belgium.
Versweyveld became the regular scenographer of the Het Zuidelijk Toneel theater group and joined Toneelgroep Amsterdam in 2001, as head of the design department and the group's regular scenographer and photographer.
He has worked on numerous productions as set and light designer in Europe, the UK and the United States. Among other internationally known directors, he has worked on all of Ivo van Hove's theater and opera productions and on numerous dance productions by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker for Rosas Dance Company.
Versweyveld has received numerous awards for his light and set designs. He has been a teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and was one of the cofounders of the scenography training program in Antwerp. Recent works in the UK include A View From the Bridge, Lazarus, Hedda Gabler and Obsession.

Jan Versweyveld has been nominated for several awards for his work in lighting and scenic design in various plays. These nominations include Best Lighting Design of a Play at the Tony Awards for "Network" and "Arthur Miller's The Crucible," Best Scenic Design of a Play at the Tony Awards for "Network" and "Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge," the White Light Award for Best Lighting Design at the Olivier Awards for "Network," Best Lighting Design at the Olivier Awards for "A View From The Bridge," Best Set Design at the Olivier Awards for "A View From The Bridge," Outstanding Scenic Design at The Lortels for "Scenes from a Marriage" and "The Little Foxes," and Set Design at the Obie Awards for "Hedda Gabler." Additionally, Jan Versweyveld received a Special Citation at the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards.
Jan Versweyveld has won the Special Citation at the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Scenic Design for "Scenes from a Marriage" and the Set Design award at the Obie Awards for "Hedda Gabler."
