The Bushwick Starr is thrilled to partner with independent film studio MAKEREADY in presenting Black Exhibition, a new piece created by @GaryXXXFisher and directed by Machel Ross, associate/assistant for Lileana Blain-Cruz (The House that Will not Stand, Marys Seacole) and Lila Neugebauer (At Home At the Zoo, The Wolves, Mrs. Murray's Menagerie).

UK-based artist Selina Thompson's Race Cards is an individual and immersive approach to examining thoughts about race and identity. Audience members enter a rooma?"one by onea?"surrounded by 1,000 different questions about race posted on index cards. Each participant is invited to answer one question and write a response. The questions were written by Thompson over an extended period of time, and the work's international exhibitions to date (in the UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and the US) have revealed a global range of attitudes toward race.

At age 25, Veronica Swift is recognized as one of the top young jazz singers on the scene.Swift grew up on tour with her jazz pianist father and jazz singer mother, appearing at venues like The Jazz Standard and Dizzy's Club. Since then, her passionate and intense vocals have thrilled audiences at Lincoln Center, where she appeared with Michael Feinstein, as well as headlining appearances at Telluride Jazz Festival, Blues Alley, The Jazz Cruise, and Birdland.

Tony and Emmy nominee Dylan Baker (La Bête, Happiness, The Good Wife) has joined the cast of Medea, Simon Stone's contemporary rewrite of Euripides' tragedy. The production makes its US premiere at the Harvey Theater at BAM Strong. Previews begin on January 12 with opening set for Jan 30.

Vertical Player Repertory premiered The Constitution, A Secular Oratorio, by American composer Benjamin Yarmolinsky in June 2019 for two sold-out performances. A setting for chorus and soloists of substantial portions of the United States Constitution, including highlights of Articles 1-7, the Bill of Rights, and subsequent amendments, the premiere of this timely new work will be extended for four more performances in September, in VPR's original staging and with the original cast of 24 singers accompanied by piano.

PHOTOVILLE, NYC's Largest Photo Festival, Opens September 12

On September 12, Brooklyn-based nonprofit United Photo Industries (UPI, co-founded by Sam Barzilay, Dave Shelley, and Laura Roumanos) opens Photoville NYC 2019, the eighth year of the festival celebrating and showcasing photographers and organizations from New York and around the world in a rare open setting (September 12-22). UPI have transformed the festival's picturesque location, The Brooklyn Bridge Plazaa?"located in Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO beneath the majestic span of the Brooklyn Bridgea?"into an immersive photography village populated by over 80 exhibitions in 60+ shipping containers repurposed into galleries. Photoville NYC 2019 continues to focus on the power of visual storytelling, showcasing stories from across New York City's five boroughs and throughout the world.
Free Immersive Pop Up Performances Transform Fort Greene October 4-6

Irondale Center, in association with Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble and Tours Soundpainting Orchestra (TSO) announce the U.S. Premiere of PoP Up: An Artistic Treasure Hunt. Over the course of three days this fall, October 4-6, audiences will engage in various treasure hunts and discover 15 site-specific performances via clues on a hand-painted map of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Inspired by interviews with local Fort Greene residents and business owners, "PoP Up" will be performed by a collective of multidisciplinary performers in public spaces scattered around the neighborhood of inspiration. Starting location for each performance is secret and registered audience members will receive notification day before the show.

What Will the Neighbors Say? is thrilled to announce the creative team for the workshop production of their upcoming devised project, Agua, Vida y Tierra, this November. The production will officially inaugurate the company's 2019-2020 season at MITU580, the new home of the renowned Theatre Mitu company, in Gowanus. The performances will be held on November 15th and 16th at 7.30pm and November 17th at 3pm at MITU580, 580 Sackett St, Brooklyn, NY 11217. Tickets will go on sale next month, and full casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
