BIO
Rasche worked as a writer and teacher, including teaching English at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. He performed with Chicago’s Second City improvisation group for two years and helped fund Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. In 1974, he appeared in the Organic Theater production of David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago.
Rasche began appearing in film and television in 1977. He made his film debut in An Unmarried Woman (1978), directed by Paul Mazursky, and appeared in Manhattan (1979), directed by Woody Allen. In 1983, he appeared in the television film Special Bulletin. He guest-starred on Miami Vice (1985). From 1986 to 1988, he starred in the title role of the television sitcom Sledge Hammer!.
His subsequent film credits include Cobra (1986), An Innocent Man (1989), Masters of Menace (1990), and the television film Barbarians at the Gate (1993). He appeared in a 1997 episode of Columbo titled “A Trace of Murder.” He also voiced Captain Piett in the NPR radio adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back.
Rasche portrayed Donald Greene in United 93 (2006) and appeared in In the Loop (2009). In 2017, he appeared in Theatre for a New Audience’s production of Thornton Wilder’s The Skin of Our Teeth. From 2018 to 2023, he had a main role as Karl Muller on the HBO series Succession. In 2023, he participated in an industry reading of Rob Sedgwick’s play Please Leave.
