Ansel Elgort made his professional acting debut in the Off-Broadway production Regrets in 2012. He made his film debut in Carrie (2013) before gaining wider recognition as Caleb Prior in Divergent (2014). That same year, he starred opposite Shailene Woodley in The Fault in Our Stars and appeared in Men, Women & Children.
Elgort reprised the role of Caleb Prior in The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015) and The Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016). In 2017, he starred in the title role of Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. He also starred in the thriller November Criminals (2017).
He appeared in Billionaire Boys Club (2018) and starred in The Goldfinch (2019). In 2021, he played Tony in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of West Side Story. He went on to star as journalist Jake Adelstein in the HBO Max series Tokyo Vice (2022), also serving as an executive producer.
In addition to acting, Elgort records electronic dance music under the name Ansølo. He signed with Staar Traxx and Size Records in 2014, releasing the singles "Unite" and "Totem" that year, followed by "To Life" in 2015. He performed at major music festivals including Electric Zoo (2014) and Ultra Music Festival (2015), and opened shows for The Chainsmokers, Nervo, Nicky Romero and Martin Garrix.
In 2015, Elgort signed with Island/Universal Records. He released the single "Home Alone" in 2016, followed by "Thief" in 2017 under his own name. Also in 2017, he was featured on Logic's album Everybody on the track "Killing Spree." He released the single "Supernova" and appeared on Don Diablo's single "Believe" in 2018.
