17th Annual NY Burlesque Festival Returns In September

The New York Burlesque Festival is the largest and most acclaimed festival of its kind in the world, and has attracted sold-out crowds since it's premiere in 2003.  This September marks the 17th year for this celebrated event, and producers, Thirsty Girl & Pontani Productions will once again, serve up 4 nights of glitter and glamour in Gotham, with over 120 eye-popping performances from international leading burlesque and variety entertainers at five of NYC's hottest nightclubs. Bringing together over 2,700 enthusiastic audience members who,  in addition to enjoying tassels and tail feathers will be entertained by live music, international DJ's, variety and circus performers, burlesque, boylesque, and a shopping boutique where you can try on custom corsets, peruse pasties, hair ornaments, vintage dresses, lingerie and even partake in a pin-up make-over.

651 ARTS, Brooklyn's premier organization for the African Diasporic arts, today announced the appointment of seasoned nonprofit arts leader David J. Roberts as the renowned institution's new Executive Director. The selection of Roberts follows an extensive nationwide search led by cultural consulting firm CJAM Consulting, LLC and 651's Board of Directors. Roberts, who succeeds former Executive Director Shay Wafer, will report to the Board of Directors and will officially assume the role in August, 2019.

Opera on Tap in partnership with The Old Stone House, The Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID, and Anti-Social Music and in association with Sing For Hope and with support from the Park Slope Civic Council, will stage an interactive musical walk through America's volatile political history the weekends of July 5th and July 12th entitled This Is The Ground. With curatorial support from famed song historian Paul Sperry, music will include a diverse array of songs spanning popular and classical styles ranging from the 1790s to now. Billed as a site-specific, interactive musical journey mapping an American refusal to surrender, the experience has been developed and directed by renowned theatre-makers, Latrelle Bright and Jerre Dye.
