BIO

Scott Elliott is a renowned American theater director, who has directed over 70 productions in his career. He is the founder and artistic director of The New Group, a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company.


Elliott was born in 1960 in Ohio and grew up in a small town. He attended Ohio University where he studied theater and graduated in 1982. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue his passion for theater.
In 1987, Elliott founded The New Group, which quickly became known for its edgy and provocative productions. The company has produced many successful plays including "Hurlyburly," "The Starry Messenger," and "The Kid."
Elliott has also directed several Broadway productions, including "Three Sisters," "Present Laughter," and "The Threepenny Opera." He has received critical acclaim for his work on these productions and has been nominated for several Tony Awards.
In addition to his work in theater, Elliott has also directed for television and film. He directed the film "A Map of the World," starring Sigourney Weaver and Julianne Moore, and has directed episodes of the television series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Good Wife."
Elliott is known for his ability to bring out the best in his actors and for his innovative staging. He often takes risks with his productions, pushing boundaries and challenging audiences.
One of Elliott's most notable productions was the 2018 revival of "Angels in America" at The National Theatre in London. The production received rave reviews and was praised for its powerful performances and inventive staging.
Elliott has also worked with many notable actors throughout his career. He has directed Ethan Hawke in several productions, including "Blood from a Stone" and "Clive." He has also worked with Cynthia Nixon, Jesse Eisenberg, and Edie Falco, among others.
In addition to his directing work, Elliott is also a teacher. He has taught at several universities, including New York University and The New School. He is known for his passion for teaching and for inspiring his students to pursue their own creative visions.
Elliott has received numerous awards and honors for his work in theater. In 2015, he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame, and in 2019, he received the Mr. Abbott Award for lifetime achievement in directing.
Despite his many accomplishments, Elliott remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push the boundaries of theater and inspire audiences with his innovative productions.
