Antigone in Analysis

Get Tickets

OBIE and NYIT Award-winning Peculiar Works Project is returning to La MaMa ETC's Downstairs Theatre for the world premiere of Antigone in Analysis, written by Barbara Barclay and directed by Ralph Lewis.

The legendary theater presenter commemorates this spring's Women's History Month with Sophocles' classic... reimagined as a feminist fever dream of Greek storytelling caught in a philosophical nightmare!

Leading the cast as Jocasta is Bianca Leigh, just off her originating role in Broadway's Oh, Mary! and newcomer Alessandra Lopez as Antigone. The Chorus of antagonistic philosophers features Mick Hilgers (Hegel/Sentry), Nomi Tichman (Irigaray/Tiresias), Simon Henriques (Kierkegaard/Ismene), Sammy Rivas (Lacan/Haemon), and Linnea Scott (Butler/Artemis). Live music by Joseph Lynch (Flute) and Freja Højland Høj (Vocalist).

This contemporary makeover of Antigone reimagines the classical Greek myth with a metaphysical twist: a salon of great thinkers from across time conjures Sophocles' play, putting Jocasta on the throne to square off with Antigone. Their meddling erupts in a mother-daughter throwdown that interrogates patriarchal storytelling through a feminist lens. And there is no battle more fiercely fought than that between a daughter and her mother.

Performances will run March 20 through April 5, 2026 at La MaMa's Downstairs Theatre.

Chain Theatre will present the world premiere production of John Patrick Shanley's The Pushover, directed by Kirk Gostkowski.

The Pushover is a play about three bad-ass women who collide and collude at a spa in New Mexico, and a bare-bones Asian restaurant in Queens. Dangerous and hungry, their weapons and their passions bleed into each other. They speak the language of the outcast, rough and sexual, and fight to survive, and to love.

The production stars Rebecca De Mornay as Evelyn. The cast also includes Di Zhu (The Master and Margarita, The Dragon) as Pearl, Christina Toth (Orange Is the New Black, Candlelight) as Soochie, and Christopher Sutton (William Mastrosimone's Rules of Desire) as the therapist.

The Pushover will play a 4-week limited engagement from Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Chain Theatre.

The Receptionist

Get Tickets

Second Stage Theater will present Adam Bock’s dark comedy, The Receptionist, directed by Sarah Benson. The company will feature two-time Tony Award winner Katie Finneran, Mallori Johnson, Nael Nacer, and Will Pullen.

It’s business as usual at the Northeast Office, where the cheerfully dutiful receptionist (Katie Finneran) answers phones, brews coffee, and gossips with co-workers. But when an unexpected visitor from the Central Office (Will Pullen) walks through the door, business becomes far from usual. The Receptionist is a jet-black comedy about bureaucracy and complicity that’s biting in its humor and chilling in its relevance.

The Receptionist will begin performances Wednesday, April 15 on the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

This Is Not About Me

Get Tickets

This Is Not About Me is the debut play by Hannah Caplan, coming to 59E59 Theaters. The play follows Grace and Eli, two people in their mid-twenties whose relationship spans friendship, intimacy, rupture and repair. In the wake of a painful separation, Grace, a writer, attempts to make sense of what happened by writing a play about their relationship. But as the act of writing intensifies, what's true and what's imagined begin to blur, and the story starts to slip out of her control.

The roles of Grace and Eli will be reprised by Amaia Naima Aguinaga and Francis Nunnery, following their praised performances during the production's Edinburgh Festival Fringe run.

The narrative moves between the past and present, with scenes from the relationship appearing in fragments and out of sequence, tracing its emotional fallout In the present day, Grace is seen composing the very play the audience is watching. As the story jumps across time, its meta-theatrical moments and shifts in form reveal how perspective and authorship can change, and how shared experiences are shaped by who is telling the story.

At its centre is a shifting power dynamic between Grace and Eli. As Grace frames the story as an attempt at processing and repair, Eli increasingly questions how their shared history is being represented - what is included, what is omitted, and whether Grace has the right to shape the narrative in this way. The play explores how intimacy can curdle into control, and how the desire to tell a compelling story, to be validated and believed as a competent storyteller, can come at a personal cost to those caught inside the narrative.

Towards the end of the play, a filmed sequence returns to the moment Grace and Eli first met, with younger versions of the characters appearing on screen. The moment offers a quiet, poignant reflection on the origins of their relationship and the complexity of friendship over time.

This Is Not About Me will run from May 11 through June 7, 2026 at 59E59 Theaters.

Patrick Page is leading the cast in the title role of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, directed by Jesse Berger at Red Bull Theater.

Joining Page will be McKinley Belcher III, Francesca Faridany, and Enid Graham, along with Jesse Aaronson, Matthew Amendt, Blair Baker, Amy Jo Jackson, Adam Langdon, Anthony Michael Lopez, Anthony Michael Martinez, Howard Overshown, Olivia Reis, and Zack Lopez Roa. The creative team will include Beowulf Boritt (set design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Jiyoun Chang (lighting design), Shannon Slaton (sound design), Dawn-Elin Fraser (dialect coach), Ayanna Thompson (dramaturg), Rick Sordelet (fight director & intimacy coordinator). and Adam Wernick (original music).

This shockingly timely thriller about the chaos of a corrupt and crumbling empire is brought to new life, taking the stage as one Shakespeare’s boldest and bloodiest tragedies.

A young William Shakespeare flexes his theatrical muscles as he unleashes an unstoppable cycle of revenge, in this his bloodiest of plays. Titus is Rome’s greatest general and the head of a noble family. But when his armies vanquish the Goths, their defeated queen Tamora and her lover Aaron the Moor release a fury that brings Titus, his family, and all of Rome to their knees. The play’s exploration of humanity’s capacity for inhumanity is brought to searing new life in a production directed by Jesse Berger and starring the incomparable Patrick Page as Titus, in this timely spine-chiller about the stand for justice and honor against the chaos of a corrupt and crumbling Empire.  A Shakespearean thriller that deals with standing up for justice against the encroaching chaos at the fall of a corrupted Roman Empire might just be unfortunately timely.

Titus Adronicus is currently running through April 19th at The Pershing Square Signature Center’s Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre.
