Worcester Technical High School senior Anya Barrett was named Massachusetts's 2020 Poetry Out Loud (POL) Champion Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Boston's Old South Meeting House. She bested 21 other finalists to earn the top honor. Placing second was Andrew Shapiro, a junior from Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsborough, followed by Kayla Turner, a senior from Sacred Heart High School in Kingston in third place.

The production stars Broadway and NYC talent, local actors, students of the performing arts, and features Jerry Mitchell's original Broadway choreography. Also sharing the stage in Legally Blonde will be Frankie and Romeo from William Berloni Theatrical Animals in the roles of Bruiser and Rufus. Tony Award winner William Berloni and his handlers have provided animals of all species and sizes, found in shelters, humane societies or rescue leagues, for Broadway, off-Broadway, national tours, regional theaters, special events, the New York City Ballet, motion pictures, television, and commercials.

Twenty-two students from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts advanced from this weekend's five regional semi-final contests of the 15th annual Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest to compete in the State Finals on Sunday, March 8 at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington Street, Boston). The event begins at 9:30am and is free and open to the public. The Huntington Theatre Company's Education Department has facilitated the Massachusetts chapter of this national contest in partnership with the Mass Cultural Council since its inception 15 years ago.
