As BroadwayWorld previously reported, after two successful years on Broadway, the musical adaptation of the hit animated film, Anastasia will play its final performance on today, March 31, 2019. Upon closing, Anastasia will have played 808 regular and 34 preview performances at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street).

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, on Sunday, March 31, after 808 performances on Broadway, Anastasia will take its final journey to the past- a journey that has lasted for three years. Even before it started winning the hearts of audiences at the Broadhurst Theatre in 2017, the musical made its world premiere in a sold-out, record breaking run at Hartford Stage in Connecticut.

Stalin, Lenin, mass executions. Who knew that war and civil unrest would make a good backdrop for a love story? Well, a lot of people. Margaret Mitchell, Victor Hugo, the Hollywood execs behind THE NOTEBOOK. But that doesn't make ANASTASIA, a romantic musical from librettist Terrence McNally, and composers Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, any less impressive.

Before the holidays, the cast welcomed Australian pop star Cody Simpson in the role of Dmitry.He joined Christy Altomare as Anastasia, and John Bolton, Judy Kaye, Vicki Lewis and Max von Essen. In honor of the show's incredible two-year run, we're living in the land of yesterday and taking a look back at the show's Broadway opening night in April 2017.

Stephen Brower made his Broadway debut in the Broadway company of Anastasia. Beginning as a vacation cover, he soon joined the ensemble as a 'Dmitry' understudy and had the opportunity to go on in the role several times. Now he's back out on the road with Anastasia and has stepped into the role of the young con man full-time.

The producers of Anastasia have announced that Cody Simpson has extended his engagement in the hit musical for eight additional weeks. Simpson made his Broadway debut as "Dmitry" on November 29, 2018 and will continue to star in the Broadway production through April 14, 2019.

Following the evening performance on Thursday, January 17, ANASTASIA stars Christy Altomare and Cody Simpson will return onstage for a special acoustic performance of the beloved song "Once Upon a December." Simpson will accompany the duet on guitar.

Anastasia will welcome new cast members to the Broadhurst Theatre this winter. Beginning Tuesday, December 18, original company member Constantine Germanacos will rejoin the hit Broadway musical as "Gleb." Emmy Award Winner Penny Fuller will assume the role of the "Dowager Empress" the week of January 7.

Broadway Records announces that Anastasia (Original Broadway Cast Recording) will be released on vinyl on December 14, 2018. The special edition vinyl set will be available in the US with a retail exclusive at Barnes & Noble and bn.com.
