This powerful ensemble production, drawn from interviews, police evidence, and the private diaries of the shooters, offers a thoughtful look at the events of this tragic day which still resonate 16 years later. (03/13/2015) - Artists Repertory Theatre is proud to present Portland audiences with The Invisible Hand by Ayad Akhtar, directed by former Artistic Director Allen Nause, beginning March 10, 2015. This production is in association with Seattle's ACT Theatre and follows their production of the play last September with much of the same design team, but includes two new cast members. ACT's production was named 'Best Play' in the Broadway World 2014 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards. At the end of 2014, The Invisible Hand was produced Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop. Recast as a young boarding school student, Sherlock Holmes (Andrew Fridae) quickly makes his mark on the Criterion Academy. Here he must befriend Watson (Mitchell Lenneville), navigate the twists and turns of school politics, and crack the case all while struggling to stay on the right side of the Headmaster (longtime NWCT performer and local comedian Kevin-Michael Moore). This world premiere adaptation is written by local playwright Jeff Sanders, who previously collaborated with NWCT on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Swiss Family Robinson. From Mel Brooks and the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes the new monster musical comedy Young Frankenstein, opening September 12 at Lakewood Theatre Company. Performances continue through October 19, 2014. Young Frankenstein features story by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. With William Shakespeare's farewell masterpiece, The Tempest, Portland Shakespeare Project will entertain summer audiences with some of the world's most glorious poetry in this production directed by Michael Mendelson. A staged reading of The Admirable Crichton by J.M. Barrie will serve as a delightful three-day theatrical complement, directed by Jon Kretzu. Both shows will be performed on the Alder Stage at Artists Repertory Theatre. Tickets are on sale through Artists Rep's Box Office. (02/28/2014) - Artists Rep presents the Northwest premiere of The Motherfucker With the Hat by Stephen Aldy Guirgis, now through March 30. This hard-hitting, comedic play premiered on Broadway in 2011 starring Chris Rock, making his Broadway debut as Ralph D. and was directed by Anna D. Shapiro. Kevin Jones will direct Artists Rep's production starring Victor Mack as Ralph D.
