Michael Stuhlbarg

Michael Stuhlbarg began his career in theater, appearing in productions of Saint Joan (1993), Richard II (1994), Old Wicked Songs (1995), Long Day's Journey into Night (1996), winning the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Actor, Henry VIII (1997), Cabaret (1999), The Winter's Tale (2000), Cymbeline, Twelfth Night, The Persians, and The Pillowman (2005). For his Broadway performance in The Pillowman, he won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play and received his first Tony Award nomination. He later appeared in Measure for Pleasure and The Voysey Inheritance (2006), Hamlet (2008), and returned to Broadway in Patriots (2024).

Stuhlbarg made his film debut in A Price Above Rubies (1998). His subsequent film credits include The Grey Zone (2001), Afterschool (2008), Body of Lies (2008), A Serious Man (2009), earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor, Cold Souls (2009), Hugo (2011), Men in Black 3 (2012), Seven Psychopaths (2012), Lincoln (2012), Hitchcock (2012), Blue Jasmine (2013), Pawn Sacrifice (2014), Steve Jobs (2015), Trumbo (2015), Miles Ahead (2015), Arrival (2016), Doctor Strange (2016), Miss Sloane (2016), Call Me by Your Name (2017), The Shape of Water (2017), The Post (2017), and The Amateur (2025).

On television, Stuhlbarg had a recurring role on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006–2007) and guest-starred on Ugly Betty (2009). From 2010 to 2013, he portrayed Arnold Rothstein in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. He later appeared in Fargo (2017), The Looming Tower (2018), receiving a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, Your Honor (2020–2023), and Dopesick (2021), earning a second Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
