Summer Stages: No Rest for the Opera Crowd in the Northeast This Summer

Although the solstice doesn't officially appear for another week or so, the summer opera clock is already ticking. There's a plethora of performances going on all over New York City, in addition to interesting, entertaining and fascinating productions that are just a hop, skip and jump away. Among them: Lincoln Center's Lincoln Center Festival and Mostly Mozart and On Site Opera's West Village venue, to the more bucolic realms of Bard SummerScape in Dutchess County (NY) for Mascagni and Caramoor in Katonah (NY) for Rossini and Beethoven. Los Angeles continues to be a hotbed of new musicals. After a dizzying number of new musicals appeared in the recent Hollywood Fringe Festival, soon the 18th annual Stages Musical Theatre Festival will be returning to Los Angeles this August. This prestigious festival features new musicals, which have been developed across the country, presented in concert readings. This year's festival features six musicals, presented in two venues over two weekends: August 21-23 at New Musicals Inc., 5628 Vineland in North Hollywood and August 28-30 at 3D Theatricals, 1255 N. Gaby Deslys Revue I'M A GOOD LITTLE DEVIL Comes to the Triad

I'm a Good Little Devil is a cabaret revue about the early Broadway music hall era full of glamour, fun, and joy! This show is divided into seven scenes and ten costumes, recreating some of the best success of Gaby Deslys, a world acclaimed singer and dancer of the Belle Epoque. She was a modern emancipated woman, and free of the conventions of her time. She introduced Paris to the world of jazz with her revue 'Laisse, les tomber!' in 1917, but suddenly died at the age of 39. The show consists of three characters and a piano. We have the gorgeous French Perrine Cabassud, Soprano, as Gaby Deslys, the handsome and elegant Jean-Christophe Born, T nor and the delirious Mark Nadler, at the piano. The songs are performed in English, in their original versions. Mark Nadler, was elected best showman performer in New York in 2015 and he has rewritten and rearranged the music, making these ragtime and early jazz tunes as exciting as possible for today's audience! David Ives' A FLEA IN HER EAR Begins 9/6 at A Noise Within

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, presents the Southern California regional premiere of Georges Feydeau's classic French farce, A Flea in Her Ear - considered the greatest of French farces -- in a new version written by David Ives. Directed by Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, the show begins previews on September 6 and plays through November 22, 2015 (opens on September 12). Flea is the first production in A Noise Within's 2015-2016 BREAKING & ENTERING season, and is followed by the world premiere translation/adaptation of Jean Anouilh's Antigone by Robertson Dean (September 20 to November 20) and All My Sons by Arthur Miller, the Company's contribution to the global Miller Centennial Celebration(October 11-November 21).
