Kelli O’Hara began her professional career on a U.S. national tour of Jekyll & Hyde. She appeared on Broadway in Follies (2001) as Young Hattie Walker/Young Phyllis Rogers Stone, Sweet Smell of Success (2002) as Susan Hunsecker, and Off-Broadway in My Life with Albertine (2003). She played Lucy Westenra in Dracula, the Musical (2004).
She starred as Clara Johnson in The Light in the Piazza (2005), earning a Tony Award nomination. She appeared as Babe Williams in The Pajama Game (2006), receiving another Tony nomination. In 2007, she performed as Dot/Marie in Sunday in the Park with George (Reprise! concert, Los Angeles) and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (New York Philharmonic). She voiced Beth Totenbag on Click and Clack’s As the Wrench Turns (2008).
From 2008–2010, she starred as Nellie Forbush in South Pacific, earning a third Tony nomination. She appeared in Bells Are Ringing (2010, Encores!), the film Sex and the City 2 (2010), and guest-starred on Blue Bloods (2011). She performed in She Loves Me (2011 benefit concert).
She starred in Nice Work If You Can Get It (2012–2013), receiving a fourth Tony nomination, and played Julie Jordan in Carousel (2013, New York Philharmonic). In 2014, she led The Bridges of Madison County, earning a fifth Tony nomination, appeared in Peter Pan Live!, and made her Metropolitan Opera debut in The Merry Widow.
O’Hara starred as Anna Leonowens in The King and I (2015–2016), winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She guest-starred on Masters of Sex (2016) and appeared in Brigadoon (2017, Encores!). In 2017, she starred in the web series The Accidental Wolf, earning an Emmy nomination, appeared in 13 Reasons Why, and performed Così fan tutte at the Metropolitan Opera. She reprised The King and I in London’s West End (2018).
She returned to Broadway in Kiss Me, Kate (2019), earning her seventh Tony nomination. In 2022, she appeared in HBO’s The Gilded Age, continued The Accidental Wolf, and performed as Laura Brown in the operatic adaptation of The Hours. She originated the role of Kirsten Arnesen in Days of Wine and Roses (Off-Broadway 2023; Broadway 2024), earning her eighth Tony nomination.
