Full of glorious melodies, Babes in Toyland tells a story that is both amusing and scary: villainous Uncle Barnaby plots the deaths of his young niece and nephew, Alan and Jane, in order to gain their inheritance. After many twists and turns, the siblings, with the help of several Mother Goose characters, thwart his efforts and bring happiness back to Toyland.

Northport's gorgeous John W. Engeman Theatre does it again with a stellar showing of theatre staple Man Of La Mancha, the second show of their dazzling 12th Season. This incarnation of the Tony winner, running through October 28th, is excellently directed by Peter Flynn and boasts an extraordinary cast. Long Island is certainly lucky to have this production lead by Broadway vets Janet Dacal, Richard Todd Adams, and Carlos Lopez.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Operetta Wonderland: The Magic of Victor Herbert, directed by Brian J. Shaw with musical direction by Carlos C. Rodriguez, showcases Herbert's musicality through a selection of both his popular and lesser-known songs. This production features the rich vocals of Kelly Curtin, Cara Gonzalez, Elise Jenkins, Andrew Adelsberger, Joe Haughton, and Bryan Jackson accompanied by Rodriguez on the piano. While the musical direction is strong, the production's flow and design sometimes distract from the magic of the music.

On Saturday, December 14, at 3pm and 6pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) Holiday POPS! concert celebrates the season with returns of the New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble and the Princeton High School Choir. The festive program features March of the Toys by Victor Herbert, 'White Christmas' by Irving Berlin, 'Waltz of the Flowers' from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, a polka by Johann Strauss Jr., Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride, and more. Of course, everyone is invited to join in the annual carol sing-along! Conductor Nell Flanders leads both performances, which take place at Richardson Auditorium on the campus of Princeton University.

Complementing performances of Tony Award-winning actress and director Victoria Clark's production of Conor McPherson's new version of Strindberg's The Dance of Death, Classic Stage Company (CSC; Artistic Director, John Doyle) presents the second installment of its new Classic Conversations series. The series began with acclaimed actor Raul Esparza on the occasion of his "blisteringly good" (New York magazine) turn in Bertolt Brecht's Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui; another conversation will be announced this spring. The March 5 at 7pm event will serve as a rare, intimate, and engaging distillation of Clark's life in theater through conversation-with CSC Artistic Director John Doyle and celebrated music director Ted Sperling-and song. Sperling, who memorably worked with Clark on The Light in the Piazza, for which they both received Tony Awards, will also accompany Clark on piano for the musical portion of the evening. This one-night-only engagement takes place Tues, March 5 at 7pm at Classic Stage Company (136 E 13th Street, New York); tickets are $100-$150 and can be purchased at classicstage.org or 212-352-3101 (or toll free 866-811-411). Tacoma, WA grunge-pop trio Skating Polly has announced their 10 Year Anniversary Celebration, taking place on November 2nd @ The Vera Project in Seattle. It may be hard to believe that the wise-beyond-their-years band is already celebrating 10 years together, but step-sisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse first started playing together when they were just 9 and 14 years-old respectively, with their first show at a Halloween party in 2009! As of 2017, the band now involves their brother Kurtis Mayo as an official member.

Earlier this year, on April 22, The Phantom of the Opera, reached a milestone that no other Broadway show has even come near. Phantom, the longest-running show in Broadway history, became the first Broadway show EVER to reach #13,000 performances. This is just one of many incredible achievements made by the show since it opened on Broadway over three decades ago.

MasterVoices will conclude its 2018-19 season with the world premiere of a new adaptation of the legendary Kurt Weill, Ira Gershwin, Moss Hart musical Lady in the Dark. Presented as part of New York City Center's 75th anniversary season, it is directed and conducted by MasterVoices Artistic Director Ted Sperling, and choreographed by Doug Varone. The musical will star Tony Award winner Victoria Clark in the lead role of Liza Elliott. In addition to the previously announced performances on April 25 and 26, because of high-ticket demand, a matinee has been added for April 27. Opening on Broadway in 1941, Lady in the Dark was groundbreaking in its unusual subject matter psychoanalysis and unconventional structure. It has not been seen in New York in 25 years, since it was presented as part of the inaugural Encores! season at New York City Center in 1994.
