Denis O'Hare

Denis O'Hare appeared in the 1998 Broadway revival of Cabaret, playing Ernst Ludwig and performing with the Kit Kat Band orchestra. He later portrayed Charles J. Guiteau in the 2004 Broadway production of Assassins, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. In 2005, he won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Oscar Lindquist in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity. He also won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Richard Greenberg's Take Me Out.

His film credits include The Anniversary Party (2001), 21 Grams (2003), Garden State (2004), Derailed (2005), Half Nelson (2006), Michael Clayton (2007), A Mighty Heart (2007), Charlie Wilson's War (2007), Changeling (2008), Milk (2008), and Edge of Darkness (2010). He also appeared in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation Saint Maybe and guest-starred on Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

On television, O'Hare appeared in Brothers & Sisters (2008), portrayed Phillip Steele in An Englishman in New York (2009), and played Dr. David Worth in Bored to Death (2009). In 2010, he joined HBO's True Blood as Russell Edgington. He later had recurring roles as Judge Charles Abernathy in The Good Wife and The Good Fight.

O'Hare co-developed An Iliad with Lisa Peterson, based on Robert Fagles' translation of Homer's epic. The play premiered at Seattle Repertory Theatre in 2010, was staged at McCarter Theatre the same year, and opened in New York in 2012 with O'Hare and Stephen Spinella alternating in the lead role.

In 2011, O'Hare appeared in the film The Eagle. He starred as Larry Harvey in American Horror Story: Murder House (2011) and returned to the anthology series as Spalding in American Horror Story: Coven (2013), Stanley in American Horror Story: Freak Show (2014), Liz Taylor in American Horror Story: Hotel (2015), Dr. Elias Cunningham in American Horror Story: Roanoke (2016), and Holden Vaughn in American Horror Story: Double Feature (2021).

In 2012, O'Hare played the Baker in Into the Woods at The Public Theater's Delacorte Theatre. From 2023 to 2024, he portrayed the Man in Stephen Sondheim's final musical, Here We Are. In 2026, he appeared as Wally Baker in the Netflix series The Boroughs.
