MRT Presents EXPLORE Cambodian Rock Band

Donahue Theatre, 50 E. Merrimack Street.

The Anthropologists' Launches Regional Tour Of The Award-Winning ARTEMISIA'S INTENT

The award winning theatre company The Anthropologists (NYC) will tour their critically acclaimed play Artemisia's Intent to Massachusetts and New Jersey this October. Winner of Best Solo Drama (2018 FRIGID Festival), Artemisia's Intent delivers a tour-de-force performance to unearth the life, work and words of 17th century painter Artemisia Gentileschi. Performances will kick off at Art House Productions in Jersey City on October 18-19, followed by a one night only engagement at the historic Cape May Stage on October 21. From there, the show travels to Massachusetts to the brand new Peabody Black Box on October 25. Tickets for all performances are $25.

Playwright Patrick Gabridge, the 2018-2019 Mount Auburn Cemetery Artist-In-Residence, is presenting THE AMERICA PLAYS, the second series of site-specific plays, following THE NATURE PLAYS produced in June. Whereas the earlier work explored the richness of the natural environment at the Cemetery, this series of five short plays brings to life the founder, sculptors, strong women of the era, and a compelling immigrant story about some of Mount Auburn's Armenian denizens. Guiding the audience from site to site through the lush grounds enhances their connection to the elements of the stories being told and grounds the drama in the flora and fauna of the landscaped jewel.

Malcolm Lowe Announces Retirement From Concertmaster Position At The Boston Symphony Orchestra

Malcolm Lowe has announced that he will retire from his position as Boston Symphony Orchestra concertmaster after serving 35 years in the prestigious leadership role. Mr. Lowe joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster in 1984 under Seiji Ozawa's music directorship, becoming the tenth concertmaster since the orchestra's founding in 1881 and only its third since 1920. He retires from the position just prior to the opening concert of the 2019-20 BSO season on September 19.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) will present the East Coast Premiere of Cambodian Rock Band by Lauren Yee, directed by Marti Lyons and featuring the songs of Dengue Fever, Sinn Sisamouth, Voy Ho, and Rose Serey Sothea, from October 16 to November 10 at the Nancy L. Donahue Theatre, according to Executive Director Bonnie J. Butkas and Interim Artistic Director Terry Berliner. Cambodian Rock Band is a co-production with Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago and City Theatre in Pittsburgh.
