Josh Groban Headshot

BIO

Josh Groban was introduced to producer David Foster and manager Brian Avnet in 1997 and soon began working as a rehearsal singer for major events, including the 1999 Grammy Awards, where he rehearsed “The Prayer” with Céline Dion as a stand-in for Andrea Bocelli. His appearance led to performances on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and Ally McBeal in 2001. He released his self-titled debut album, Josh Groban, in 2001 through Warner Bros. Records and David Foster’s 143 Records imprint.

In the early 2000s, Groban performed with artists including Sarah Brightman on the La Luna World Tour and Lara Fabian on the soundtrack for A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). In 2002, he performed at the Winter Olympics closing ceremonies and starred in the PBS special Josh Groban In Concert. His second album, Closer, was released in 2003 and reached number one on the Billboard charts. Songs from the album and related projects included “You Raise Me Up,” “Remember” from Troy (2004), and “Believe” from The Polar Express (2004). In 2005, he received his first Grammy nomination for “You Raise Me Up.”

Groban released his third studio album, Awake, in 2006 and launched the Awake World Tour in 2007. The album featured collaborations with Imogen Heap and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. He later released Illuminations (2010), written largely by Groban himself, and supported it with the Straight to You Tour in 2011. His 2013 album All That Echoes debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and was followed by the All That Echoes World Tour and Summer Symphony Tour.

In 2015, Groban released Stages, an album of Broadway covers. He made his Broadway debut in 2016 as Pierre Bezukhov in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical in 2017. That same year, he published the book STAGE to STAGE, My Journey to Broadway and performed “Evermore” for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Groban released the album Bridges in 2018 and toured internationally with special guest Idina Menzel. He followed with the album Harmony in 2020 and portrayed the Beast in the television special Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration in 2022.

In 2023, Groban returned to Broadway in the title role of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street opposite Annaleigh Ashford in a production directed by Thomas Kail. The production earned eight Tony Award nominations, including one for Groban. In 2025, he launched his Gems residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. In 2026, he performed “Endless Rain” in Tokyo with Yoshiki and released the album Cinematic, featuring interpretations of film songs including “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” “Skyfall,” and “Against All Odds.”
