A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Jaime Lozano earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music and Composition from the School of Music at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, and was the recipient of a full TSOA academic scholarship while earning his Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In addition, Jaime is the first Mexican to be accepted and graduate from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.


Jaime’s works have been produced at various important theatres such as Goodspeed Opera House, Juilliard School of Music, The Triad Theatre, Theatre for the New City, Baruch Performing Arts Center, Merkin Concert Hall, St. George Theatre, Soho Playhouse, Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre (Off Broadway), The Players, Town Hall, Minskoff Theatre (Broadway), Lucille Lortel Theatre (Off Broadway), The Duke (Off Broadway) as well as many other venues around the country and in Mexico.
An accomplished musician, vocal coach, composer, arranger, orchestrator, musical producer and musical director, Jaime has staged well-known musicals such as Into The Woods (2015), Jesus Christ Superstar (1999, 2001, 2005), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2003, 2012), Evita (2000) and The Fantasticks (2000). Jaime adapted, produced and directed the Spanish world premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years (2006, 2013) and Songs for a New World (2005). In March 2004 he developed, produced and directed the Gala Broadway Elite concert, and was the musical director/arranger of Pedro Páramo based on Juan Rulfo’s novel, which took part of the Nuevo León Theatre Festival. In August 2003, Jaime staged the Mexican premiere of Jekyll & Hyde The Musical.
Jaime has also authored/composed various musical works. To date, he has co-written The Yellow Brick Road (music and lyrics with Tommy Newman, book by Mando Alvarado), which had a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway premiere in the Summer of 2011 followed by a successful national tour; as well as the Children of Salt – A New Latin Musical, (book and lyrics by Lauren Epsenhart) which had a couple of staged readings in May 2009 and December 2015. Children of Salt is currently scheduled to make its New York City debut as part of the New York Musical Festival 2016 (NYMF). Jaime also co-wrote the one-act musical Lightning Strikes Twice (book and lyrics by Noemi de la Puente) premiered Off-Broadway at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre in June 2010 and with a very succesful run in Venezuela with its Spanish adaptation. The Yehuatl (book and lyrics by Sara Cooper), read in May 2008 at NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, followed by a second reading in January 2009 at the Dramatist Guild, later becoming the first act of the musical tryptich Myths world premiered on December 2012 in Monterrey, Mexico (with additional lyrics by Jorge Castilla). Jaime is the composer, lyricist and librettist of the musical Tlatelolco, which premiered in October 2001 in Monterrey, Mexico, and was revived in 2002, 2004 and 2013. In film, he’s the composer for the short film Os by Jesús Alarcón.
As an arranger, Jaime has worked with the cast of In the Heights and with Tony and Grammy award-winner Alex Lacamoire on the Christmas recording Carols for a Cure 2010. Jaime is also the arranger, orchestrator and music director for the album of the non-profit organization R.Evolución Latina Dare to Go Beyond, featuring various prominent Broadway performers including High School Musical’s star Corbin Bleu.
Jaime was Alex Lacamoire’s musical director assistant for the Stephen Schwartz Gala Making Music, produced by The Harbor Lights Theatre Company at The St. George Theatre and directed and choreographed by Chet Walker. He worked as a composer, arranger and music director for the 2010 HOLA Awards honoring Rita Moreno. He was an arranger for the concert To Mexico from New York with Love organized by Broadway actress Bianca Marroquín.
With his wife, Mexican actrees and singer Florencia Cuenca created a jazz project called The New Standards, recording an álbum in 2015 with contemporary musical theatre songs but with jazz arrangements by Lozano himself. The project is being performed at the most importante venues in New York City, Mexico and Latin America.
Jaime is the co-orchestrator with Alex Lacamoire of the Cuban musical Carmen La Cubana based on the opera Carmen by Bizet and World premiered in Paris, France at the Théâtre du Châtelet on April, 2016.
As a singing teacher and vocal coach, he has worked with some of the most important musical theatre performers in Latin America and the United States. He teaches workshops and master classes all around the world.
Other professional associations include his affiliation with the non-profit organization R.Evolución Latina, based in New York City, where he functions as an activist, teacher, music arranger and head composer. He is the artistic director and music producer of La Casita Recording Studio, and he also serves on the Partnership and Promotion Committee for the NYU Musical Theatre Writer’s Collective. Currently he has been named director of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León Musical Theatre Professional Company, where he developes new musicals.
