BIO

Lloyd began his career in theater, apprenticing at summer theaters in New York and Massachusetts, and made his New York stage debut in And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers (1961). He made his Broadway debut in Red, White and Maddox (1969) and later appeared on Broadway in Happy End (1977). His Off-Broadway credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Kaspar (1973), The Seagull (1974), Total Eclipse (1974), Macbeth, King Lear, The Father, In the Boom Boom Room, and Orphée and The Human Voice (1972). He also appeared at Yale Repertory Theatre in The Possessed (1977) and in White Pelican (1977).


His first film role was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975). He starred as Jim Ignatowski on the television series Taxi (1978–1983) and portrayed Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part II (1989), and Back to the Future Part III (1990). His film roles also include Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Clue (1985), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), The Addams Family (1991), Addams Family Values (1993), Dennis the Menace (1993), Radioland Murders (1994), and My Favorite Martian (1999).

Lloyd’s television work includes Amazing Stories (1986), Deadly Games (1995–1996), Stacked (2005–2006), Tremors: The Series (2003), Numb3rs (2007), Fringe (2011), Psych (2013), Roseanne (2018), The Conners (2022), and The Mandalorian (2023). His stage work later included A Christmas Carol (2008), Death of a Salesman (2010), and The Caucasian Chalk Circle (2013).

His voice and game work includes Toonstruck (1996), Back to the Future: The Game (2010), Robot Chicken (2012–2013), Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind (2019), and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (2020). His later film credits include Senior Moment (2021), Spirit Halloween: The Movie (2022), and Man & Witch (2024). He starred in the live-action series Knuckles, which premiered in 2024.

Christopher Lloyd has won several awards throughout his career. He received two Primetime Emmy Awards for his performances in the television series Taxi and Road to Avonlea. Additionally, he won the 1993 Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Addams Family Values. Lloyd has also received a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in the Broadway production of the 1982 show, The New Two Hundred.
