Porchlight Music Theatre’s Porchlight Young Professionals Associate Board will present Happy Hour & A Hit: The Irish … and How They Got That Way at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

Porchlight Music Theatre has revealed the cast and creative team for the next production in its 31st season, The Irish … and How They Got That Way, by Frank McCourt, original musical arrangements by Rusty McGee.

This unique collaboration brings together the best of both companies, celebrating the resilience, humor, and enduring spirit of the Irish people in a heartwarming production that will leave audiences clapping, laughing, and singing along. Almost 3,500 tickets have already been sold and matinees are filling up quickly.

The Warner Stage Company will present Frank McCourt's THE IRISH…AND HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY, a musical celebration of Irish heritage filled to the brim with humor, stories and heart, in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre March 10-18. Due to popular demand, an additional performance has been added onThursday, March 15 at 8 pm. Slainte! 

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Greater Boston Stage Company at The Irish and How They Got That Way, created by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes). This musical revue is a celebration of a heritage that confronts adversity with determination, good humor, and a love of life. McCourt's wit, insight and boundless love for the Irish are underscored by music extending from the auld Irish folk ballads to World War II standards, and beyond. Directed by Dawn Simmons, performances run March 8 - 25, 2018. The Press Opening is Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 3:00pm.

A little bit of Irish history and a lot of Irish music comprise THE IRISH...AND HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY at the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville. A multi-talented ensemble of three women and three men sing and dance their way through Frank McCourt's wide swath of history on both sides of the pond.

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes, 'Tis), The Irish and How They Got That Way tells the story of the Irish experience on both sides of the pond. It's imbued with McCourt's unique humor and draws on his personal experience as an Irish-American. Told through a revue of songs, this sometime irreverent but always loving look at the Irish people includes such immortals as "Danny Boy," "The Rose of Tralee, and "Harrigan"-the works of George M. Cohan including "Give My Regards to Broadway," "You're A Grand Ole Flag" and "I'm A Yankee Doodle Dandy"-to music from modern-day Irish rockers U2.

First produced at the Playhouse in 2007, the show was such a tremendous success that extra performances had to be added and we are thrilled to bring it back as part of our Centennial year.
