THE IRISH AND HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY Plays Somerville's Davis Square Theatre, Now thru 3/17

By:

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes, 'Tis), The Irish and How They Got That Way tells the story of the Irish experience on both sides of the pond. It's imbued with McCourt's unique humor and draws on his personal experience as an Irish-American. Told through a revue of songs, this sometime irreverent but always loving look at the Irish people includes such immortals as "Danny Boy," "The Rose of Tralee, and "Harrigan"-the works of George M. Cohan including "Give My Regards to Broadway," "You're A Grand Ole Flag" and "I'm A Yankee Doodle Dandy"-to music from modern-day Irish rockers U2.

Directed by Danielle Paccione Colombo, this production will reunite the multi-talented Philadelphia (2010) cast including Gregg Hammer, Janice Landry, Jon Dykstra, Meredith Beck, Andrew Crowe and Irene Molloy (Civil War, Whistle Down The Wind).

Frank McCourt's The Irish and How They Got That Way will perform tonight, January 24 - March 17, 2013 (open ended) at Davis Square Theatre, 255 Elm Street, Somerville. Performances are Thursday & Friday evenings at 7:30pm; Saturdays at 4pm & 7:30pm; and Sunday matinees at 3pm. Tickets are $39.00 - $42.00 and are available by calling 800-660-8462 or online at www.frankmccourtstheirish.com.

Playwright and author Frank McCourt was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Limerick, Ireland. He spent 27 years teaching in the New York City public school system before embarking on a writing career. After retiring from teaching, Frank and his brother performed their two-man show, A Couple of Blaguards, a musical review about their Irish youth. Frank's childhood memoir, Angela's Ashes, spent 117 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was the winner of the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Biography. Frank McCourt died at the age of 78 on July 19, 2009. He remains one of the most celebrated and beloved Irish-American authors of our time.
