Theater Schmeater Announced Lineup for The Nomad Season
by BWW News Desk - March 12, 2019
The decision to leave Belltown was not made easily. The theater's board and directors knew that giving up their own space to become a nomadic theater was a risk that would come with many challenges, but the cost of occupying the Belltown space was rapidly increasing to more than the income from a 50-seat theater could sustain. Theater Schmeater's Board President Rachel Sorrels notes that Because we value our artists and the art we put on the stage above everything else, we are willing to take that risk and face those challenges. Acting artistic director Andrew Shanks calls this a time of change and renewal for us as a company.

BWW Review: MAP Theatre Releases the Beast with TREVOR
by Jay Irwin - March 10, 2019
When the basis of your play, such as Nick Jones' "Trevor" currently being offered from MAP Theatre, is a real-life story, the gist of which could probably fill up a report on the news and was probably germinated from there, the journey to get to that inevitable conclusion is everything. And while some of the dialog in Jones' journey tended to meander a bit, the journey the MAP Theatre performers took us on with their performances made us really care for these characters and root for their success even as we could see the oncoming train barreling down on them. And it's that caring, that empathy that keeps us with them and watching even though we want to look away from what we know is coming, heartbreak.

BWW Review: CAUGHT at Intiman Theatre Will Catch You Off Guard
by Kelly Rogers Flynt - March 09, 2019
CAUGHT presented by Intiman Theatre will catch you off guard and make swiss cheese of all your theories of what is art and what is theater. Christopher Chen's play combines visual art and theater into a playground of ideas. What is truth, your perception, and intention are all challenged with thought-provoking dialogue and action. Just when you think you have grasped the essence of the piece, it shifts direction and reveals a twist, another level, and leaves you once again wondering what is real.
BWW Review: ACT's Near Perfect ROMEO + JULIET is the One We've Been Waiting For
by Jay Irwin - March 09, 2019
Over the years, Dear Readers, I've seen many productions of Shakespeare's oft-produced tragedy 'Romeo + Juliet'. So many productions from so many levels of professionalism with so many different takes on how to tell the story. And to be honest, only one of them even came close to bringing the story of the star-crossed lovers to life. That is until now. ACT's current production with its vibrant staging and top-notch cast incorporating Deaf and hearing actors using American Sign Language in conjunction with the Shakespearean text has created a new standard by which all other R+J's must be judged from here on.

TREVOR By Nick Jones Opens March 8
by BWW News Desk - March 08, 2019
Trevor is a MAP-flavored tragicomedy about family, the nature of love, and the lies we tell ourselves to avoid facing sad and terrible truths. At the center of this world are Trevor, an almost-famous chimpanzee, and his owner & 'mom' Sandra. Trevor's getting older and more uncontrollable by the day, but Sandra knows Trevor would never hurt a fly ... not on purpose, anyway. A painfully funny satire exploring how flawed communication can lead to disaster.
